pre heater question

Ok so i have this pre heater function in my 05. It will be perfect when winter is coming. Like last winter when the temperature quite often were down to -25c/-27c.
My question is, will this function heat the engine compartment as well?
Those very cold starts are of course hard on the engine.

And also, are there any risks that by using this function the battery might drain?

Does the TDV8 have the FBH as standard?

It's not clear in the wiki. Graham

Doh. Thud

Soz. My bad (again). Thanks.

Seems like it works differently in the FFRR to the Discovery 3 - in my D3, the FBH warms the coolant resulting in more rapid engine warm-up (and potentially easier stating I guess), but is incapable of warming the cabin. Graham

Graham, I had the same experience with my old RRS as the fuel burning heater used to just help heat up the engine coolant fluids faster. There were kits available which some of the D3 & RRS boys installed which meant you could call or text your car to start the heater and also the internal fans.

On a TDV8 Vogue you have the preheater as standard which is controlled either by a remote or a timer function in the main screen. Not used mine much yet so don't know if it makes a big difference to the engine getting up to temperature faster, but it certainly makes the cabin nice and warm when you get in on a cold morning.

I am looking forwards to the really bad weather...

yes, the TDV6 RRS and D3 are the same. I'm probably going to fit one of Pete Bell's kits to control the D3 remotely. Not got the TDV8 yet, but trying to get to grips with the various options...

Presumably a FFRR mod is available which circulates that warmed water through the block...? Graham

Think that the pioneers used a kit by danhag(?) but Pete's kit looks very good. Apparently webasto make a kit that you can install to give remote pre/park heat. Seem to remember that when I was looking at these before I replaced the RRS that Pete's kit ticked all the boxes and was also more cost effective. Thumbs Up

my understanding of this situation is thus...

the FFRR has like so many larger capacity diesel cars is fitted with a webasto auxilary heater. this kicks in automatically to aide warming the engine at a pre set temperature usually about 5 degs C. when it is cold enough you will see the vapours and smell the exhaust fumes so you will know it is working.

the FBH part of things is different!! the FFRR has the ability to heat or cool the cabin by the addition of the webasto tele start remote receiver or the timer unit on the main screen.

so if you have both parts, the engine will warm up quicker and the cabin will be heated already when you get in the car.

i hope that what i am saying is correct and maybe helps the understanding of things a bit.

please as usual correct me if i am wrong!!

it is like toast inside when you get in.... Very Happy Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

except of course if you have a new FFRR
when it will be cold when you get in, and there will be a "low battery" warning
