My 2006 model year L322 is misbehaving. Accelerates very slowly, struggles to get up to 30mph, then slowly gets up to 50 to 70mph and that’s it. If you put your foot down nothing happens. When you come to an incline it looses speed.

Has been in the garage for three weeks and after a new fuel pump has been returned with problem unsolved. Have been looking on the internet and most likely cause appears to be Mass Air Flow Sensor.

Tried to remove it with a view to cleaning or changing and have been unable to get it out. There is a male torx screw in a very tight spot underneath. Can't get anything onto it to get it out.

Just wondering if anybody has any comments on the general problem, the mass air flow sensor, and the removal problem.

The MAF/IAT sensor on the TD6 (pre 2006) is fitted with two torx bolts (female) according to the workshop manual that I downloaded. It is located on the (UK) driver side of the engine near the front (radiator). I would be surprised that on the MY 2006 that has changed. Try to find the workshop manual online and download it, I would suggest.
As for the behaviour, have a read on the forum on fuel pump issues with the TD6 models, most people replace both pumps as they seem to go simultaneously. Did they test the fuel pressure before they changed out the pump at least (probably not by the sounds of it).
It would not hurt to clean the MAF (also the connector) though.

Sorry only kidding! As suggested look at the other fuel pump, I had a 530d, same engine basically, and had to change both fuel pumps, then it was good as new!  2012 SDV8 Vogue SE

Why not try removing the whole MAF assembly, just unclip the hose connectors at either end, work the MAF off the hoses, disconnect the plug, then you have access to the sensor. If you can get the sensor out, you can soak and agitate it in isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol?) then dry it out and refit.
