oh no! idle squeal on V8 RR 2004 - only just bought it :(

Hi Guys,

I have tried to find a solution on this but I cant find a definite answer. at idle I have a slight squeal coming from the front engine area, as far as i can tell this is coming from the passange side and when I sprayed wd40 (i know i really shouldnt have) it stopped but obv did come back a day later

I have read up it can be tensioner pulleys or idle puilley but I really dont know if this would be the case it only has 64k on the clock and is a sept 2004 model.

any ideas guys ? i just want to make sure its not something serious or that i urgently need to attend to

ps. when i rev, it goes go away, its only at idle that the squeal happens

i dont think it could be the alternator as when i sprayed wd40 the noise went away, if the noise stayed i might have thought it was but then again i dont have much technical knowledge about this. but im learning

could it really be the fan belt ? are they not meant to last atleast 100k miles???

if you sprayed the wd40 onto the alternator pulley assembly then maybe .

i would a more selective spray and see what stops making the noise when sprayed..

I have had this on a few I think its the fanbelt pulley. Goes away with 3-1 spray or WD40 but only on a temporary basis....

I've had this for weeks also had it about two year ago it was the fanbelt pulley that had to be replaced so now I don't bother with it I just turn the tranny up and mine is only sitting at 55k miles plus my brother might be buying it for £12k so he can get it sorted if he buys it Laughing

I'm not fussed about the squeal tbh I can use 3 in 1 spray or even I heard some chalk used on violins works perfect. I'm just thinking if it is the pulleys would it be best to get the culprit fixed or is it possible for it to ever break? Or does it essentially just get noisier and noisier.

Lollllll make sure u give it a squirt of wd40 before you sell it to him. "as good as new" Twisted Evil

I'm going to ask a dumb question: what do you mean turn the tranny up

Cheers guys.
