I beg to differ... Range Rovers have had automatic locking (limited slip/torque sensing) centre diffs since 1989! One of the reasons they have always been the best on road off roader. ![]() |

Yeah didn't see a difference it's still a rocket. Physics is a wonderful thing but it's great when the butt dyno disagrees. 2.5t shouldn't move that well. Made a chav in a 2.0tdi A5 look very sad today when he was right up my ah$e. REALLY want a 5.0 |

The pre-2006MY L322 centre differential in the NVGV225 transfer box is a Zexel Torsen T-2/Type B, so yes, torque-sensing (it can distribute torque within the range 65/35 front to rear, or vice versa), and limited-slip BUT they only have a 50% locking effect, as a maximum, and like any Torsen, if there's no resistance on one side of it, it's just like an open diff. You're relying on the traction control after that. Post-2006, the RR has a Magna-Steyr DD295 transfer box/diff (as do the D3, D4 and RRS) which has a computer-controlled multi-plate clutch. P38 and post-1989MY original had a viscous centre diff. |

Yes, so they all have a locking diff. OK never a 100% lock, but that is rarely needed - and can lead to other issues in itself.

No. I can accept any of your other statements but this is simply wrong. I'm not even going to start arguing locking diffs or articulation - just pick up any off road mag from 2002 on and read the off road tests. The RR always excelled. The Touareg (nice car, no doubt) is a SAV. Period. And this has nothing to do with any silly pride in the marque or the like. No. ![]() RRC 2Dr, RRC 4Dr, P38, and 2 L322s (wife thinks I'm nuts - prob right, too) |

I really doubt that a touareg with 20" rims and standard tyres would have been there where I was with the Range Rover without any problems!
