@stu it was I think a V6 3L Diesel

it wasnt slow but it was quite expensive for what it had. (once I drove a 2.5L Diesel and that was really rubbish)

and when I asked if they could change some stuff and add some bits and they quoted me the price I was shocked..

I really like on the Range Rover that there isnt every bit additional.

For example: the touareg had a nice nav/sound system. I asked about bluetooth.. Oh well,if this car is ready for it will cost 500$ to retrofit it.. if it doesnt have the wiring it wont be possible.. Rear view cam.. Was not there.. Retrofit? We dont know if it is possible....

For the Range Rover SC (which is a Vogue) I knew I only had to choose the colour that I like it will have more or less all the bits I want.


And i dont like the styling from the pre 07 Touaregs too much. For me a RR is much more classier.

I have to be honest, I'm not a very big fan from german cars. I prefer cars like: Land Rovers, Bentley,Jag,Lamborghini.
my father wants to buy a Porsche 911 black edition for himself. I would be happier if he buys an Aston, a Jag or a Bentley which would fit his age better

Got to admit i do fancy a supercharged.

One thing to remember is that all Touaregs (and Cayennes) have a lockable centre diff, which the pre-facelift L322 didn't have.

I beg to differ...

Range Rovers have had automatic locking (limited slip/torque sensing) centre diffs since 1989! One of the reasons they have always been the best on road off roader.

Yes, so they all have a locking diff. OK never a 100% lock, but that is rarely needed - and can lead to other issues in itself.

Then as you say you are relying on the ETC to do the rest of the work for you - again a very capable system. Certainly never had any problems in deep mud or extreme snow in my 2003's.

I will be intersted to see how well the electronic locking diff works on mine - fingers crossed for another harsh winter (sorry pensioners, you get a free bus pass - I can afford to heat my house )

I can accept any of your other statements but this is simply wrong.

I'm not even going to start arguing locking diffs or articulation - just pick up any off road mag from 2002 on and read the off road tests. The RR always excelled. The Touareg (nice car, no doubt) is a SAV. Period.

And this has nothing to do with any silly pride in the marque or the like.

I really doubt that a touareg with 20" rims and standard tyres would have been there where I was with the Range Rover without any problems!

You can all check the pictures in the offroad section. I think I was at a place where it is a place for offroad cars not for SUV and SAVs.

I have to admit I was really pleased how good the rangie performed up there. If there havent been soo many hitchikers I would have drove up the Aigulle Croche which would have been really the top. But I have to say the path which I took back from the station of the chair lift wasnt easy and I'm sure a ordinary car would have had troubles there.

So I think a RR is like a swiss army knife. Suitable for every thing. You can turn up at a 5 star resort or you drive up where no normal car can and it always perform well.
