A 4.2 SC was the first FFRR I drove, and compared to my previous Mercedes ML270 CDI it felt bloody awesome. Since then I've driven the 3.6TDV8 and a 4.4TDV8 and I must say I would not not swap my 4.2 SC for either, despite the improved fuel economy that the diesel gives.

On similar tyres I think the only real areas where a Touareg or Cayenne will lose out is ground clearance and wheel travel (maybe less of an issue on a Cayenne with the detachable anti-roll bars). |

I used to love taking my touareg off road, racing round all over the place. It was awesome. I had to collect cans of BP Ultimate along the track.... Oh wait a minute that was a Miniclip game!

Sorry - must continue to flog... ![]() One of the only mags I've ever read that really tried to standardize off road testing was a German mag called 4wheelfun (silly name - good mag although they've gone all-online). They test somewhere in ex-GDR (IIRC) on tank development grounds where a great deal of effort was put into testing over varying terrain while keeping conditions equal.
Up until a couple of months ago the RR was #1 for several years running - better than the Defender, MB G-Wagen, all Jeeps, etc. Just recently it was pushed to the #2 spot by the... ...LR4. The Dew-rag was never even close to the top 10, Unfortunately there are no English versions, but the articles are a good read even with google translator (and quite amusing at times- never realized the RR's have landing gear) - and the pics are nice. RR test: http://www.4wheelfun.de/supertest/land-rov...03267.html Dew-rag test: http://www.4wheelfun.de/supertest/vw-touar...03575.html To 10: http://www.4wheelfun.de/bilder/die-besten-...how_item=1 ![]() RRC 2Dr, RRC 4Dr, P38, and 2 L322s (wife thinks I'm nuts - prob right, too) |
