United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Vogue TDV6 Corris Grey

Couldn’t it be repaired properly with piano hinge and pop rivets? Whistle “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

A lot of manufactuers do that. Especially in the domestic appliance area.

I wonder if its a part worth me having made if it's a common problem? I wouldn't mind seeing a photo of the hinges on their own closer up. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Siberian Silver

I've removed the arm rest from the car to have a better look at it

The plastic hinge is what has shattered, these plastic hinges used to be moulded around the silver elements on the long bar that runs through the entire assembly, as the arm rest and the under tray both pivot off a central thin bar running through the centre.

Those silver elements are 'really' hard to turn, so much so that you cant do it by hand and have to use pliers to even turn them, I've soaked them in WD40 for a day and still they have very little movement, I suspect it was designed with some resistance as you wouldn't want the armrest to fall back down on your fingers once opened, but there seems to be far too much resistance for a thin plastic hinge to survive, so I guess over time, the leverage of the length of the arm rest and the stiffness of the silver element had a weakening effect till it jammed and stopped moving and snap.

The two little bits are what I found in the recess below the arm rest once it had been removed.

I've tried epoxying it back together, I didn't give that much hope and I was correct, a couple of movements and, it came apart again.

Anyway this is just for knowledge.
