As it’s tucked down the front, I think you should just have to remove the engine cover and the hose between the inter cooler and throttle body (pretty easy) 👍🏻

Only early 4.4 TDV8 had issues with a sticky CSOV prior to LR changing the linkage design. My MY12 has the later design so shouldn't be an issue on L405s.

Tend to agree, but it’s worth a look and a fiddle, nothing to say the solenoid hasn’t given up. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

It does affect L405s.

The OP mentioned earlier in this post that it had been diagnosed at the turbo shut off valve. This is not the CSOV valve. The turbo shut off valve is on the left hand turbo , and is prone to sticking. See my post earlier in this thread.

Just so I’m up to speed… when we say left hand that’s ’near side’ in the UK not left hand looking at the engine from the front - is that correct?

Anyway - based on your very helpful comments and suggests..

I popped out early for a 36mm socket and have removed the oil filter. I could not see any pipes in the locality so can’t say if anything is not plugged in. There was some oil past the rubber washer on the filter though

There is a fair bit of oil on the base surrounding where the filter sits as well…

If you zoom in to where the filter screws in, there is some silver metal plate that goes all the way the centre metal tube - it appears to be screwed to the base top right (about 2 o’clock) and what appears to be another hole where perhaps should also be screwed down bottom left (about 8 o’clock) - is that an issue or as designed - perhaps not important.

Can’t see any oil anywhere else.

I took the main hose out to see if I could see anything but nothing that looks like the diagram you shared - I don’t see anything I could try to move.

So, whilst it was a fun morning, i don’t think I got any closer. Big Cry Ash

Hi Dtech

The first diagnosis was the ‘Secondary Turbo Shut off valve’, probably what you are referring to but not called the CSOV perhaps? Ash

Have a look at these pictures.
First shows valve correctly fitted.

This is with the valve missing.

Looks like yours is fitted. Just check the rubber bung is in place and not missing.

Thanks Kevin

It seems I do have the valve.

Mine is very dirty and full of oil so difficult to make out much. Could you point me to the rubber bung and, given how easy it is to check, I’ll go take a look.

Question if I may, should I replace the o ring given I’ve removed the filter - I think they should be changed each time - or am I ok on this occasion to not worry about it. Ash

Yes that’s the one I am referring to. The CSOV is in a totally different location, low down in front of the engine.

It's at about ten o'oclock on my pictures.
First picture shows the bungs locating tab poking through spring plate.
Second picture shows the hole it closes.

Hmmm - Thanks Kevin

I’ll look tomorrow now but I have a feeling it was a hole on that side of the ‘spring’

Your 10 o’clock is my 7/8 o clock and that is definitely a hole I have in mine….

If it were missing a bung, what would that mean/do?

I’ll assume I could get a replacement but will check to see what I have first. Ash

Reading your other post on this Kevin I thing you have just found the cause of my losing oil.

Do you know where I’d get a new ‘bung’ or spring assembly?

Not sure it will resolve the restricted performance but will save me some oil. Come to think about, I noticed the oil light coming on last year about a month after I had the car serviced (oil and filter change) - could have been dislodged back then. Ash

Somewhere on this forum somebody said that they had had some made. Have a look in the for sale section.

Members name 'Butcher'

Also, make sure the plastic cage is fitted down the center of the oil filter.
