Some short to ground faults are caused by open circuit because the test detects 0V at the test point when 12V or thereabouts is the voltage when all is working. |

Many electrical circuits in a Rangie are controlled by transistors that have a 4th pin that reports loading to a monitor inside the controlling module. Overloads (like shorts to ground) get detected immediately they occur and the controlling transistor is switched OFF before any damage occurs. Then the monitor invokes an alternative process (if possible) and flags the error.
