What are the advantages of the vehicle's data connection over my smartphone's data connection?

The strength of your mobile phone signal and data connection can be significantly reduced by the structure of the vehicle – metal reduces the transmission of radio waves.

When inserted, the SIM card located in your vehicle’s interface panel connects to the mobile network via a significantly larger, dedicated aerial on the outside of the vehicle. This helps to maintain a much stronger data connection with the network.

@Bill:

Looking at “Lightning” on Wikipedia, the pinouts on the plug show only data in, data out, power and ground connections, so I don’t think the phone can use the aerial. Even if the car body has a partial Faraday effect, 5G is way better than 3G, which itself is 30x faster than 2G, so this far outweighs using a painfully slow 2G SIM in the car, better to simply connect the cars’ wi-fi to your phone hotspot, especially if you have unlimited data. May as well use something you are already paying for, than purchase inferior technology. Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Thanks…. Taken on board.

My iPhone X max phone is still 4g… I bought a number of excellent Apple cases as a job lot, working my way through the stock! …. Rolling with laughter

I will be getting the new iphone 5G enabled at the turn of the year as I’m expecting a much better signal whilst at home. Good reports from neighbours.

Ps
The difference tween an Apple case and a knock off from the internet is surprising / amazing. (some still for sale if anyone wants to buy new Apple iPhone X max case pm me. £25.00) Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. How are people getting on with this? I'm in no mans land with a 2017 car and noticed today that the 3G kept flitting in and out on a 250 mile journey. I'd forgotten all about the switch off so not quite sure what to do next. I have wired CarPlay and tried to hotspot the car to my iPhone 15 but it wouldn't have it, kept getting the circling squares.

Toyed with the idea of getting a dongle with a SIM but not even sure that will be effective. I have Waze on my phone so I know I can use that but I'd rather use the in car system just because. 3G is going, I get that but I'm mildly obsessive about this kind of thing and want it to work as its was designed without arsing about with hotspots, etc.

Yeah, I gave up after about a minute as I have the patience of a five year old - barely. Cheers for the info about the 5G jobber, does it work automatically when you get into the car or do you have to connect it? 2017 Vogue SE

Connects straight away usually I leave mine in centre console connected to usb cable so it charges when driving
As long as you switch off when not in use and switch on when you get in car it’s all ok

Nice one, cheers. I'll do that then. Out of interest, which one did you use off eBay? Amazon have them up for several hundred pounds but I can see some on eBay for £20ish. Just suspicious that one of them will have a dead mouse inside and nothing else. 2017 Vogue SE
