The car isn't working as it should.

Incidentally, does anyone know how to run off petrol rather than battery (other than not recharging battery!)?

When in Drive, I pull back on the gear selector which starts the engine and engages S mode. It drives on ICE unless you have the setting for EV to kick in when entering a city centre or emission control zones.

I've done this a few times to use the engine, as most of its time is spent in EV mode. 2024 P550e Autobiography

Same here, our P550e runs on EV until battery is empty. Occasionally - if the ICE hasn't been used for weeks - the ICE kicks in even in EV mode, but after a few kilometers it goes back to pure EV mode again.

I tested a MY23 P510e two years ago, and that car had a similar fault: was not able to run longer distances ( > 10 km) in pure EV mode, even if the battery was fully charged.

Thankyou and thanks also to the other gentlemen above you who also replied confirming my suspicions.

The car is now booked in with the supplying dealer for an investigation next Thursday which is not an ideal wait time but there we are.

I’m a reasonable chap and very much a long term LR owner and advocate so I am prepared to be patient, within reason.

That said we bought this car for the specific use cases and capabilities you and others have identified in this thread. As a result I did send an email to the dealer yesterday saying that I want it acknowledged that if the situation is not remedied I will begin the rejection process.

I really don’t want to have to go down that route so fingers crossed ….

Great, thanks Jack. Engine sounds pretty good !

Yes, RSK21, I think you need to be firm with them and would rejection be so bad, given there's a lot of stock around?

My wife’s Range Rover sport 460e which we had new in September starts off in EV mode until the battery runs out. Alternatively we can switch it to hybrid mode.
It’s different to the Defender 400e she had previously. That started off in hybrid mode, and you had to select EV mode if you wanted it.
To be honest, I preferred the Defender… 2017 Range Rover SDV8 Vogue SE

Going back to the original post.

I had exactly the same symptoms on a 2023 P460e HSE.

The fault was something i think called the HV (or HT) Coolant Heater which from memory was the Bosch version and was failing in many makes of EV car that shared the component.

JLR replaced under warranty and car was perfect thereafter.

A quick update

Car went into dealership on Jan 16th

Had a frank and very reasonable conversation with the head of sales who said that if I wanted to go the rejection route he would support me - turns out we know lots of the same people through our lengthy associations with the brand

I said I was happy to give them one go to fix the car as we love the spec and would rather get it functioning as it should if at all possible

Problem was diagnosed as a faulty pump which I turn was failing to cool the HV system

There are apparently 5 such pumps so the car needed an extended run to identify which and how many

Left it for a week while I was away for work - picked it up last Saturday and it has been running perfectly ever since . Finally we have the car as it should be and it is absolutely perfect for our use cases of school, shops, dance classes etc and back each day

Dealer left a gift in the boot in the shape of a Lego Defender Classic which was gratefully received

Only annoyance is they returned it with zero EV charge which I thought was a bit tight

Anyway we are content and the car is now being very much enjoyed

I thought the 405’s we had were nice but in terms of luxury this thing is on yet another level.

A very big thankyou to all of you who provided input and helped diagnose that something was indeed awry

Much appreciated Bow down

Good to hear that this has been fixed.

Just picking up on your zero battery charge - I completely agree with you! Mine was in for a service just recently and they needed to do a few test runs to eliminate a rattle in the boot area (which they did I'm pleased to say). I noticed from the app that the charge was almost down to zero when it was ready, and my expectations were not high, but I'm pleased to say that they did put it on charge and it was on 100% when I picked it up. Made a big difference to how I felt about the whole experience. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB
