Yes. Can see the brake light shine too…. So the switch is ok, if it’s the same switch, and not a separte one for the box?

Funnily enough mine did this the other day with my wife. She claimed not to have tried to turn the selector before it rose up fully but I don’t know |

Speaking from experience do not leave this - get the selector changed, an intermittent fault soon turns into a permanent one and it will definitely leave you stranded - most likely in a very inconvenient or dangerous place - doing a U turn, in a road for example or in a car park leaving you stranded in the middle of the road blocking it and causing a huge amount of stress to not only you but other drivers being also blocked in.

seems like the sensible thing might be for us all to purchase a spare and have in the workshop for that very day!! |

£150 to £300 is a lot for a spare just to sit around. a roll of gaffer tape might be better value after all! V8 or else ... |

Yep, Don't leave this, it will get worse and at the most inconvenient time. When the rotary selector in my D4 decided to stop rotating I'd just reversed out of a parking bay in a car park and was stuck in reverse blocking the road, unable to go forward again or even select neutral to roll it out the way. I turned the ignition off hoping it would sort itself out but it didn't. I wasn't going anywhere. I had an embarrassing 15 mins whilst I stripped out the centre console and split the halves of the module to push the lock back with a costa stirring stick. I was lucky the owner of the car I'd reversed up to and was blocking in didn't return in that time. And I'm obviously lucky I have the tools in the car and am able to do the work. The replacement I modified before fitment with the 'cable Tie mod' which enables me to pull the tail of a cable tie tucked up just under the console to pull the lock back if needed. So now, as well as worrying about: blocked DPFs, regens, snapping crankshafts, stuck EGR valves and various turbo problems I have to worry about it sticking in gear. Oh well, more sleepless nights till I find out where to put the gaffer tape. 😕 |
