P400E Charging

I have just bought a 2021 Range Rover Fifty P400E & have a query regarding charging. It says the car has to be unlocked when plugging in. Does that mean it has to stay unlocked during the charging process. Surely not. Leaving the car unlocked for around 8 hours will invalidate he insurance apart from someone entering the car.
Also, is it worth getting a wall charger. My mileage is low so time to charge is not an issue. I can get a lot of charges with the granny cable for the cost of a wall box or are there any other benefits apart from speed to charge.

No, you can lock it when you’ve plugged in.

No benefit from an EV charger other than speed and cost of charging as you’ll be able to charge overnight at 7p (using Octopus as an example). But it takes a lot of charging to recover the cost of installing a proper charger, so no point if you do low miles and aren’t thinking about a full EV any time soon. I ran a hybrid for over a year on a ‘granny charger’, fully charging the car 3-4 times a week. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Just curious, is it considered safe and acceptable to leave it plugged into a 13A socket charging in a locked garage overnight ?

Martin2
Thanks for explaining that it can be locked when charging. The online handbook does not tell you that.
That's what I thought about the wall charger, never recoup the installation costs. Like you 3 times a week will be all I need. Not interested in a full EV & never will be.
Regarding Octopus energy, do I have to switch all my electricity to them. Maybe a silly question but I have a fix with British gas for leccy & gas
Thanks once again for explaining it

British Gas have an EV tariff, which gives you cheap (8p per kWh) between midnight and 5am. Not sure if they will switch you over if you’re on a fixed tariff. It will take 6-7 hours to charge if it’s fairly empty, so you’ll get most of it in the lower rate.

It won’t just benefit charging, we run the washing machine and dishwasher and adding in the charging means 35-40% of our electricity is at 7p (the tarifff we’re on) rather than the std rate of 22.8p. Not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, but it’s nice to pay less. The battery on my hybrid (non Range Rover) takes just under 15kwh from empty and costs £1.03 to charge, which give me 30-35 miles. So journeys on electric are only c3.5p a mile and it’s great not to have to run the petrol engine on short journeys. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

£1.03 to charge, wow!!!! I checked mine yesterday on my smart meter from empty to full, £6.30 for 30 miles. Big Cry Probably better never charging & just using petrol. Never thought it would be that bad, should have gone for the 5 litre V8 which I was considering. Will see what British Gas is saying Whistle

That doesn't sound right. What's the battery size, 13kw? That would make your tariff 48.5p per kwh, I'd have thought it was more like £3.50 to charge. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Been on to British Gas, changed tariff to Electric driver v9
Off peak 12am-5am 7.9p kWh
Peak 26.00 kWh
See how it goes. Think there is a setting in the car to time it. Next problem, finding it Whistle
Found it. There is a you tube video showing it Thumbs Up

Excellent, down to £1.50 a charge if you can set if for that window. Or less if the battery isn't flat as you'll get a higher % on the lower rate.

Having a wall charger would only save you 50p a charge, not a great return on investment! MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid
