With my L405 being the 3.0TDV6, it has the small sliding calipers up front. I’ve always wanted the fixed six pot Brembo ones that the bigger engines variants have.

Having looked into the upgrade and watched a Powerful YouTube video, it’s a simple case of taking off the old caliper and fitting the new caliper with 380mm discs and pads

I managed to source a decent looking set of calipers off EBay. Pictured here:

The paint isn’t 100% perfect. I’ll inspect again once delivered and decide whether to have them fully refurbed or alternatively I may just paint them myself.

I’ve also ordered Brembo pads, new caliper bolts and pins from LR Parts.net and a pair of Brembo 380mm discs from CarParts4Less.

I’ll keep this thread going when the parts start to arrive.

I did exactly the same a few months ago and was very pleased with the results. A very worthwhile upgrade and now the brakes are fantastic. I upgraded the rear discs and calipers at the same time from 350mm to 365mm.

I painted the calipers black with heavy duty PU lacquer having applied some new decals. I didn’t use high temp paint and there are no issues.

You will need larger discs all round, and replacement brackets for the rear calipers :-

Good idea to replace the flexible hoses at the same time, if these have not been done in the past 4 years. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Advisable to upgrade the rear diameters at the same time, to avoid unbalancing the brakes front to rear.

So with the rears, would I just need bigger discs and different caliper carriers. Would
I need a different sized pad or the same size?

AFAIK, calipers are no different, but the larger diameter disc gives more braking torque.
Ovbs, yes you need to change the brackets (see my pic, the old & new brackets are NOT the same, the shiny new red bracket is slightly longer than the old one) This allows the same caliper to sit further away from the hub, to account for the change in brake disc [i]radius[/i].
No, you do not need different pads, they are exactly the same, in fact nothing else would fit, if that makes sense, but I don’t recommend you re-use old pads on a new disc, even if only 10% worn.

The old engineering addage applies: “ friction is independent of surface area”.
Which means, bigger pads don’t stop any better, -they just don’t wear out so fast!  “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Check out these 2 pics, old vs new, look at the gap between the disc and the stone guard with the smaller disc, which vanishes with the larger disc, yet the caliper still sits at the edge of the disc, due to longer “legs” of the new bracket:

Just received the calipers and I’ve decided to get them fully refurbed with new bleed nipples, pistons and rubber gaskets.

Just wondering whether I can keep the small black metal deflectors on the rear of the caliper or should they be taken off for the L405. I’ve read somewhere that these won’t fit for the L405 applications?

Just got the calipers back from the refurb company. I’m over the moon with them. Pistons were fine, they just fitted new rubber boots and bleed nipples.
