Have you got one of these ?

They are very good for stubborn screws etc. perhaps with your dremel idea…

Does the TB need removing ? If you move the pipe work out of the way doesn’t that give access? Mine is a l405 but I don’t think that different..

Not cheap at £30 the set on Amazon, but you’ll use them time and time again. I haven’t found an exhaust manifold bolt, injector bolt (same type as you need to remove) or even swollen LR alloy wheel nut that these type of extractors won’t remove.

You just place the appropriate size on an impact wrench and undo.

After much procrastination and August just about over, these turned up today. I shall reinvigorate my efforts tomorrow/the weekend.

I have a nasty suspicion 6mm is too big but I'll see tomorrow.

Yep, 6mm is too wide. Damn and blast, another weekend gone. I'll see if any local firms have anything that will work before eBay again.

Nearly there! The good-old 2-nut method has removed the two on the right. One of the left was gripped by the new socket - lovely. That leaves one more where access is hampered by a connector. Patience and temper were fraying so I have called it a day and I'll have a beer whilst watching F1 qually.

I need to buy a head torch as I can't see a thing and holding my mobile for its torch is not ideal.

Last one to attempt:

More slow progress but at least it is progress.

I manged to disconnect the harness preventing access to the last stud but it came apart and my socket would not grip it. Poo.

I decided to revisit Richie N's idea of removing the three screws holding the the throttle body to the brace. This meant having another go at the 2 rounded throttle body bolts and fortunately with two new 8mm sockets, they gripped and I managed it. I thought the top one was a lost cause but I was lucky.

As you no doubt can imagine, it's gunk-central in there. One just knows the doughnut is going to be horrendous. Hands up if you love EGR - no, I thought not.

It was then F1 from Monza on the telly and after a few tinnies, I've decided to see if the doughnut will remove tomorrow with a clear head. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green

The doughnut is off but I still need to remove the brace for access so this may end up being drilled.

I can't see anything untoward but what does the panel think? Can anyone work out the date of the oil cooler from the sticker? I think M+H is OEM and I have an invoice from Dec 2020/47,000 miles ago for a new genuine LR part.

It also had a thermostat upper and lower assembly in Nov 2021/31,000 miles ago.

Gunky EGR thingy:

Horrible doughnut as expected. I need to form a plan of attack to clean this.

I have noticed some dried coolant on the left side of the oil cooler. There are also some hoses in poor condition so replacements are in order whilst I am here.

I made a bit more progress after work but a gorilla has tightened the oil feed pipe nut too much and I stopped at this point as it was drizzling too.

The oil feed pipe bolt did not round but it felt close. I will have to order a new one.

I think it's been leaking at the side for the EGR cooler pipe and the circular part doesn't look great.

new hoses and cooler from Maltings.

So far I haven't needed to remove the fan and the tools have turned up only a few weeks late. Evri/Hermes cementing itself as the worst courier in the land. Maybe this will change once I try to remove the thermostat assembly but it looks doable from the top looking down. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green

Horrible, horrible, horrible! Brake cleaner doesn't cut it so Mr Muscle oven cleaner was used. It's not gleaming but the holes are open. If I keep it then I really think the EGR has to be deactivated.

I am dreading the doughnut.

Cleaning the Doughnut is a nasty, messy job but plenty of info on here about how it's been done by various people. I plugged the 4 outlets and filled it with kerosene to soak overnight and then used various brushes an scraping tools to remove what was left. Some of the deposits can be very solid and need more than a stiff brush to dislodge them. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Yep, I have no doubt you are correct. I need to buy a large storage box I think to use as a temporary 'tank'.

Raymies Garage and Sam's M&M on the YouTubes have given me a taster. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green

Some more small steps today. It appears that it is not possible to remove the 'stat housing from above which I had a sneaking suspicion would be the case. I cannot pull off the three hoses towards the front as the metal pipe below will not budge.

One of the double heater hoses disintegrated as I removed it so I was right to order a new set as it probably nearing end of service life.

I am working tomorrow and Goodwood Revival is on the YouTubes so I doubt I'll do much more this weekend.
