caliper bracket bolt alternatives

this is for a 4.4 tdv8/5.0 facelift

so theres a post over in sale/wanted but this is more about a suitable alternative.

unfortunately they are out of stock at LR and also NLA

So the bolt is M12 x 1.5 x 29.5

Which is part no LR012823

Now I can replace it with maybe

https://www.gwr-fasteners.co.uk/m12-x-15mm...7e6cd3dfbf

Which would work in theory(unsure about that 0.5mm in length difference but can always change washer to suit).

But is high tensile steel appropriate? i really don't want this snapping or maybe even overheating then before you know it the caliper is banging around destroying the alloy and suspension.

cheers Its actually a sport Sad

The LR part should have the bolt grade ( tensile strength) stamped on it so make sure this matches. JLR will not be making bolts and they will be off the shelf items. Also try Brembo as they make the calipers. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Yes TRW for the rear. Grade on the bolt head will still be the best guide though as the same caliper is likley used on other applications. According to a quick search it will either be 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9 with the latter 2 being stronger. Also the OE bolt will likley come with a dab of thread lock. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

A good engineering supplies merchant should be able to supply you with alternatives, and if you want to add threadlock, a small bottle of this stuff is cheap and will last you ages if you keep the bottle sealed.

Just remember to add just a 'dab' of threadlock fluid not half the bottle or getting the bolt out later becomes a major exercise Big Cry

tbh this is what caught me out i think.

i reused the existing ones I have, and with no threadlocker on it it backed off and I ended up losing it. Its actually a sport Sad

Never heard of a caliper bolt working loose as the torque settings are very high (often a torque setting + an additional number of degrees of rotation) and should be enough to hold it without thread lock. You had it fall off on the road and it was only secured with 1 bolt? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

It's two bolts for the rear and only 35nm plus 90 degree which I did a few months back now

When I checked what the knocking noise was it was the caliper carrier.

It has lost the top bolt and the bottom one was also loose not not fully out yet.

Got a bit lucky Its actually a sport Sad

Ended up getting the ones above and installed

Also got m12 captive washers from same site but ended up needing to drill them to 12mm since threads didn't match

Installed with a lot of medium strength thread locker to be safe. I basically torqued till there was no more give and checked to make sure it wasn't protruding into the disc or shield in anyway

Only difference is now it's 16mm socket rather than the 18mm Its actually a sport Sad
