it's something i don't use very often, but this morning the rear window was a bit cruddy driving up a crappy "B" road.

i pushed the lever and the wiper came on, and i think i got a trickle of water, kept pushing it to try and make the water come out, but nothing really!!

my question is, where does the water come from? is there a jet, is there a pipe in the wiper arm?

i have had a look but hard to see, it doesn't help that you can't get it out from under the rear spoiler unless of course someone knows something i don't.

The jet nozzles are located in the wiper base. Where it's connected to the motor. Common problem is these getting plugged with crappy water. To get the wiper out turn the ignition on and put the wiper on. When it's middle of the screen turn off the ignition. Job done. I replace my wiper arm and cleaned out my water hose a few months back. Have a look back in my posts as I did a little how to.

The jet nozzle is on the arm nut cover, possibly blocked in your case. You need to remove the rear spoiler to remove the arm although you might be able to insert a pin into the jet and clear it. There is also a non return valve at the rear which ensures the water doesn't drain all the way to the tank at the front again.

This was a continual problem with my rear washer - the jet was constantly blocked but could be cured with a prod from a pin or sewing needle (my wife's, not mine !!). The washer would remain clear for only a couple of goes though before it blocked up again. I had the in line filter off and cleaned it three times over the years with only temporary results. In the end I got my cordless drill out.
The jet nozzle is a brass ball with a tiny hole for the water jet through the middle and the aim can be adjusted by rolling the ball about so I just carefully drilled out the brass ball. Now whenever I operate the rear washer I get a useful stream of water come out wetting the glass nicely before the wiper starts up. The slight down side is I use a tiny bit more washer fluid than I once did but I have a sparkly clear rear screen everytime I want one.
If you have a go at this cure just make sure you dont drill too far and go all the way through the wwiper arm body.

Had a go at mine yesterday (sunny day). Removed everything and found nozzles blocked, put back together, still nothing. Removed wiper arm, operated wash/wipe, water jet right across the road. Removed whole assembly and couldn't see any blockages.........
When down the pub.
Sun is out again today, will have another go....until pub opens.

I have a similar problem. I can hear the motor running, but its intermittent and not constant, when I hold the stalk forward. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Gave the nozzle end a thorough rodding (using some copper earth strand) and cleaning and after removing the wiper drive and connecting it to the mains water it finally cleared. I think it needs to be very clean as the nozzle is very constricted.
I think the intermittent pump drive you can hear is normal, as mine does the same.
Problem now , the seal on the main shaft through the drive to the wiper is now passing, as water is dripping from the plastic elbow into the motor assembly. Seen a fix on another post where the seal can be obtained for 1 euro. The dimensions are on there, so I'm sure a motor factor can provide.
Back to the pub.

One has to wind down from all our FFRR problems and get back into the real world now and again....hic

I had this problem with my last FFRR and landrover denied there was a problem until I told them to get a new car out and show me that they are all like this. It turned out to be the non return valve in the rear washer line wasn't stopping the water from going back to the bottle and it just took an age for the water to eventually come out.... if any! They eventually succumb to my continual complaints and tantrums and replaced it and all was cured!

This valve is only fitted due to the length of the pipe
