Non Starter.......

Well I knew it was too good to be true - three weeks of happy RRing........ then, this morning refused to start.
Everything turns on - even the radio comes on, but just a click when pressing the start button.

Now, I know I'm asking a "how long is a piece of string" question as it could be a number of things, from starter motor to fuel pumps, but any advice on where to start looking?
It has started perfectly so far, even after being left for a while. I've not used it since Wednesday, (now Sunday).

Messages - the "low battery start the engine" warning was showing three weeks ago, but not since and I've used it quite a bit. "Water in Fuel - See Handbook" has been flashing up then disappearing after a few miles. Any clues from this?

I've not tried jumping it yet, as I can't get another car close enough to it and my jump pack as also packed up!!! ( Censored Censored )

Any advice gratefully received!

Luckily, if it comes to it, both alternator and starter motor are covered on warranty..............

Ahh the joys. Rolling Eyes
TIA
Graeme

Thanks Mike,
I've been looking around on here. Sadly no quick fix to get it going it seems?

Ohhhh for the days when you could open a bonnet, find the starter motor, spray some WD40 round and whack it with a rubber mallet and off you went............ Can't even find the damn thing on this machine!

RAC home start tomorrow - I'll just use my 26 year old Volvo for now instead.

Water In Fuel Error ( Restricted Mode ) - I am getting this error as well - lots of info below

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic66708.html

the genuine LR sensor harness is no longer available separately to the fuel filter assembly, but it's a cheap Ford part. The part numbers are 6C119155BE and 1685716 and can be bought for less than £40 on eBay and other online retailers Smile

Will it not start after you have tried it a few times? Not a fix I know, but seem to remember it can be an intermittent issue…. At least you can move it then…..

Thank you - I've been reading around this today, of course, and it does seem they have a habit of springing back into life - but not yet!

Of course, it will the very moment the RAC man arrives tomorrow...............

Charge your battery fully. If the starter is clicking it signifies either too low a battery voltage or dirty contacts on solenoid. Generally if this is the case a full battery will normally operate after a few attempts but decreasingly.
Dirty solenoids are a well known fault on 4.4 tdv8. The solenoid is attached to the starter which is accessible through the drivers side wheel arch after taking off some panels. There are several posts on replacement.
The only other issue may be the engine earth which is on the wheel arch behind the liner on I think the passenger side. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

My 2012 WM had this, all electrics come on but just a click when starter button pressed. The starter motor was changed and no recurrence. It's a known 322 weakness. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Just an update on this.

It took forever for the RAC to turn up - 26hours in all in fact, but it was a "home start" so not really inconvienced, luckily I have my always reliable 26 year old Volvo as back up.

Anyway, the excellent patrol man did a battery test - fine - and tried a boosted jump start, but still clicking, so Starter Motor it is.........

I was DELIGHTED, however, to discover that the old tricks still work........

Well I remember the days when you always carried a wood or rubber faced mallet in the car to whack the starter motor or fuel pump to get your Mini/Morris Minor/Wolseley 1500/....... going - so how pleased was I that Mr Patrol man was able to get this flashy modern box of tricks going by whacking the starter motor with a wooden mallet! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Of course, it's started fine every since - but also booked in for a replacement Starter Motor next week just to be sure - even better, replaced under the extended warranty I took on purchase of the car Very Happy Very Happy

Right - next problem please..........

It’s probably just the solenoid pack contacts. Have you checked to see if anyone does and rebuild kit? It’s a simple job, once the starter motor is out. A lot cheaper to do and you don’t have to throw the old starter motor away.

Almost certainly just the solenoid - sadly, it seems, there is no repair kit or separate solenoid. Lots of threads about it on here. Censored

Sadly gone are the days when you had a separate Solenoid with a little rubber push button on the end! Laughing Laughing
