So an update. Despite being set on a V8 a main dealer called me the day I was due delivery and they offered me this very low mileage car at what I thought a very good price indeed and with two years full LR warranty. Other than the engine it was exactly the spec I wanted and I must say I'm very happy with it. Engine is obviously not the V8 so lacks that grunt but something to aspire to and it purrs along silently and sweetly. Lovely to have the Autobiography spec as well. Have done about 450 miles on a full tank with air conditioning on since collecting it and still not on reserve so not bad on fuel. Not sure about the side steps?

Is it a TDV6 or a D350?

that looks the same as mine save the colour and style of wheels. Lovely, although I am biased.

I like my steps, they come in really useful for little/old people or when you cant open your drivers door much because some tit has parked close. First time FFRR owner

The fixed steps are Marmite, but practical if even access mode isn’t low enough for kids/oldies.
The alternative deployable steps are an expensive PITA, to fit/maintain/remove/maintain/refurbish/maintain/replace every 4 years.
Ask me how I know…… and yes I did repeat maintain three times……. :censored:
Keep the fixed steps on for at least 6 months to see if you really need/use them, then decide?
The general gorgeousness of the car takes your eye away from the steps, I feel. :thumbsup:

Good advice I'll leave them on for a bit and see if they needed. I think the 405 looks best with no running boards but I do like mud flaps, again a bit marmite! Something about the boards gives it a heavy middly look.

This is my first 405 and so just getting to grips with the functionality. In terms of driving modes what tends to work best. The dynamic setting seems to feel less floaty for general driving. Not sure if it adversely affects fuel consumption?

Lovely colour - I actually like the look with the side steps even though mine hasn’t got any 😊 I’m likely going to fit a set as they are useful when the vehicle is in extended mode off road as it’s a pain to get in and out on shoot days without them. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

That is true!

I’m another who likes the fixed side steps and mudflaps, which feature on my current car and all previous RRs and RRSs. As noted above, they are really useful when in off road position and also if you have things on the roof bars like skis or surfboards - much easier to remove. It’s also a pretty good place to place your feet when cleaning the pano roof.

I’m looking at a car at the moment which has ‘deplorables’ fitted and I’ve asked the dealer if he’d swap them for fixed steps. No response yet, but give it a week or so and if they haven’t sold the car they might just do it!

I like the fixed steps, in addition to getting in and out, if someone next to you flings their door open, it’s mostly the steps their door hits….

Reading the comments about the engines. I'm not sure history or main dealer serving makes a difference. I have heard of many LR's having engine failure and all having full main dealer service. That means those of us who buy low history or indie/self maintenance cars haven't a hope? I have a feeling some of these are doomed since manufacture. I run a 280 km D3 and a 217 km 4.4TDV8, if either of those had engine failure Id be gutted and probably couldn't justify the repair so I don't know how some people are putting replacement engines in.

For me, I do worry about it from time to time and if I hear a strange sound from the V8 my heart sinks but there is only so much one can do. I service annually or 10.000kms and use genuine filters and Liqui Moly oils, after that its up to the gods. Current yokes
