Low level coolant message popped up

Had to add a litre of premixed coolant today. Suspect it was due to the cap not being fully tightened as the last main dealer service. Loosing coolant this way….does it sound feasible? No evidence of any water leaks in or around the engine bay and no sign of mayo in the water or oil filling cap.

Does the loose cap scenario seem to be a logical reason why I’ve lost coolant? I’ll have to keep an eye on it in the next few weeks!

Any other thoughts?? L405 2016 4.4SDV8 Autobiography Corris Grey/Pimento - Current

Have you checked for wetness in the V between the cylinders and around the oil cooler?

EGR cooler can also be a source of leaks.

I’ll keep an eye on things but no oil in the water so don’t suspect the egr cooler. The car is still under JLR warranty so if I can’t spot anything and still lose water, I’ll get it booked in for a check. L405 2016 4.4SDV8 Autobiography Corris Grey/Pimento - Current

I've had many very small water leaks on my 2014 TDV8. All caused by the o-rings in the water pipes wearing away the plastic spigot they are supposed to seal against. Very hard to find, the main giveaway is the smell.

So I keep a regular eye on the coolant.

Your unlikely to see much of a leak below on the ground due to the drip tray below the engine. So worth keeping an eye on it. Thumbs Up

Keep an eye on the pipework further back towards the rear passenger compartment as there are coolant pipes running back to the rear HVAC... Thumbs Up

Thankjs guys. I'm hoping the loose cap was the culprit. I'll be checking daily for the next few weeks. It's still under the JLR warranty so at worst it'll end up in the dealers for resolution

Still leaking/losing coolant and dealer also thinks it maybe the EGR cooler. Your comment maybe the winner! I'll keep you informed

Natural habitat!

Well, having thought some more, the dealer has suggested I don’t drive the RR. Think the term he used was “you don’t want to cook the engine”. His first suggestion was to look at the egr cooler - had issues here with BMWs in the past so it might be the culprit? Car only has 42k miles, fully serviced and still under full JLR warranty
Anyway, it’s been transported to Stratstones in Stockton for the initial assessment
Is this a RR in its natural habitat?!!

I’ll keep you all updated

Only thing I'd say is if it were the EGR cooler, I'd expect to have exhaust fumes in the cooling system, which can easily be tested by a dye test.

My experience of V8s (LR and not) is that they all have so many hoses and connections, they all use a little bit of coolant. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
