Air sus 4.4 TDV8 - normal ride height only C1A20-64

Hi all

So here it goes, had a few nightmare months with our beloved Range Rover, but currently have an issue that I can’t seem to get rid off Sad the current fault is normal ride height only, on my diagnostic tool i have the error code C1A20-64 - system reservoir filling too slowly.

To resolve the issue I have replaced the desiccant for the air dryer including all seals and washers (X8R) there was a small air leak once replaced in the cap but I have sorted that and there is no signs of an air leak from the compressor. I have got underneath and sprayed the reservoir with soapy water but can’t locate a leak. The car does not drop over night or after a couple of days but we did leave it parked for 5 days (on a slight slope at my mums house) one time while we were away and the OSR had dropped a fair bit (this was the side that was lower on the slope). I have a tried to locate a leak but no luck from the reservoir and bag. So I am a little stumped as to what to try next?

In the previous weeks i had the adaptive dynamics fault which i resolved thanks to this forum by locating the wires on the front strut and locating the break and repairing.

Also we did have a faulty ride height sensor at the front which i replaced (I had initially put it on incorrectly as the sensor was giving a negative reading but I soon figured it out and put it on correctly)

Thanks to this forum I have resolved most of the issues but this is a problematic one and I could do with your advice and help so thank you to the forum members in advance you have helped loads already.

I think you're already along the right lines, i.e. air leak somewhere. A previous D3 I owned had the same fault and symptoms caused by a pin hole in the reservoir (which I found almost by accident). If the compressor is functioning correctly, then you're leaking air somewhere. I think all you can do is follow each line through from the compressor. I assume the compressor isn't running excessively? Also, one side dropping, regardless of incline, etc. could well indicate where the problem is.

Sorry it's not very definitive, I'm sure there will be others with much more specific knowledge/wisdom.

Hi

Yes I did do a height calibration after fitting the height sensor. All the height sensors are now within operating range with no issues as far as I can tell.

Does it move to all three height settings ok, upwards and downwards?

Have you checked each airbag for leaks at each height setting?

Have you cleared the error code, does it come back?

If i clear the fault code it can move up a down in all 3 positions but the code quickly comes back and then it’s stuck.

One thing i have noticed is that there seems to be a big discharge of air from the back of the car (not compressor but outside the vehicle) and then the light comes on. I only noticed this again just now as I was about to carry out another ride height calibration when stood outside the vehicle

Does anyone have any ideas as to what that discharge of air could be related to and why the error pops up shortly after?

Have you looked at the valve block ? Checked to see if that’s leaking or what about getting a rebuild kit for all valve blocks ,I was having similar issues turned out it was the front valve block seals ….kit is only £18-20 .worth a go

Is the air leak at all 3 heights or only one? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

It’s stuck in normal ride height only, and if there is a leak then its slow because it can be days before any drop (if there is any)

What about the big discharge of air - this is not normal as the only vent is on the pump. The air springs usual develop a leak on the fold where the rubber gets deformed the most and this can be worse at different hight settings. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I can’t see or hear any leaks from the rear bags the front bags were replaced about 8 months ago as a pair. I’ve used the old washing up liquid solution and sprayed it and can’t see any bubbles so I’m stumped.

I’ve ordered a new compressor dryer cap from x8r this morning and the valve block recondition kit mentioned earlier in the thread this morning. I’m hoping this will resolve the issue.
