I need one new rear tyre but my supplier says I should buy two to have them identically worn.

I've heard this before. But I'm sceptical.

I recently changed from pirelli scorpion to Michelin Pilot Sport 4s, a complete game changer, better grip and quieter as well, thoroughly recommend. |

Generally speaking, its said that 4mm is the tread depth tolerance measurement to keep all the cogs and gears of the transmission in the right place. |

Bear In mind, if rhe remaining tyre on the axle is quite worn, it might be an idea to get it replaced as well. |

What state is your spare wheel in ? (assuming full size spare) I usually throw that into the mix & put the closest pair onto the car - sometimes it means a new spare, other times not. |

Yes, that’s a good point 👍 I need to check before making a decision. |

An all season tyre is not going to do as well in the wet as a summer tyre unless it's quite cold. If you can run 2 sets winter and summer there is no compromise. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

The problem with UK winters is a proper winter tyre is still a compromise unless you live in the North/Scotland as it can be below freezing one day and in double figures a few days later. In my experience, winter tyres aren't great at 10c+, although that is on more performance orientated cars than a FF. I think a set of decent summer and all season tyres is the best way to go. That's what I've put on my wife's Golf R and I had on my 750i, but I have a winter set on the Porsche as it's the only option. The summers are back on now though and what a difference.....in a good way! I ran Scorpion Zero All Seasons on my L405 and they were fine for the type of car it is. It's the dry where summers excel at most temperatures In the wet, an all season tyre should be better except when it's very warm Source - |
