Taking the trim panel off is a pain as there are two bolts at the top of the trim panel and to get to those you need to remove the center screen surround and the one on the right hand side of the steering wheel.

You then need to pull up the dash surround to finally get access to the bolts.

Then you also need to pull off the black panel on the side of the transmission tunnel as this has two prongs that hook into the the trim panel. You don't need to fully remove it, just loosen it off so you have enough space to unhook the trim panel.

None of it is hard, it is just it feels like you can easily break the fixing clips, especially on the dash surround. 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black

Thank you for the reply you have confirmed my suspicions and it looks like it’s a slow and steady job with no short cuts. I guess LR needed to make the TCU difficult to access. Did you need to have the TCU reprogrammed after replacing the battery and if so is this a main dealer job

Thanks

I still have the error code so a trip to the dealer is needed to get it reset with an IDD 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black

Not sure IID can do it, I've never seen the option on mine, but SDD will do upto pre facelift MY 2017, then it's pathfinder or Topix cloud. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

It's a £3K+ yearly subscription for the genuine item, cracked copies are available which will do the job perfectly, you will need a VCI and a laptop however. If you have a laptop maybe look at :-

Thanks.

Do you need one with a hard drive, or can you just load the software onto an existing laptop, like you can with BMW stuff ? 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black

It's simple to install the legit version which you can download for free from topix, if you don't have a topix subscription you will need to crack it, which is a little harder. Dpending how long you want to play with it, you maybe just better paying a little more and having the operating system and cracked programme pre-installed on the hard drive and then just swap it out with your laptop hard drive.

Obviously I never did any of this (ahem) as I now have a legit topix subscription.

I guess the other option is find an indie with an SDD subscription. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Just for information

Battery replaced but U2109 fault still present

I spoke to Inschape Chester but they refused to carryout the reset of the Telemetry ECU because I had changed the battery.

I spoke with Hatfields in Shrewsbury and they said drive it for another hour and if that does not fix it book it in and they will need 2 hours to diagnose it at a cost of £377.40

Does anyone now if the ECU can be coded out as cutting the wires and throwing the module in the bin is unlikely to work either.

Whilst I understand some of this is done for security reasons I think the changing of a battery should not be deemed as a task that only a main dealer is allowed to do and even if it is there should be a small admin charge not 2 hours of labour.

Latest version of the IIDTool software has the TCU battery test function (at least when connected to a 2018 vehicle, so should be ok for earlier ones). I've not had cause to use it so can't verify it though.

Whilst my car was in for an MOT at the main dealer today they cleared the fault for me free of charge.

So basically, you can't just change the battery, you also need to tell the car it has a new battery before you can clear the fault. 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black
