strange behaviour ?

So this week the car has had a nice run from Devon to London and then back. Today on the way back I stopped for a break on returning to the car it just about started then the gear dial would not move and this was accompanied by loads of warnings of things not available. I restarted the car and the gear dial now works. The warning lights are gone but the amber engine light is still on and remained on until I got home. Parked the car and locked it went back half an hour later and everything was clear again. The tailgate works fine and no low battery warnings. Is it the usual suspect?
Thanks! overfinch modified

Yes thx Stan I was thinking it's the Battery also, surely the alternator would be ok as it's only done 28k miles. I,m thinking it's on the original battery but have not checked as yet. overfinch modified

@Caymanblack,

Ah, sorry I wrongly assumed from your OP that you inferred it could be the earths, and the battery was OK, due to mention of the tailgate; is it plugged into a trickle charger usually, which might mask battery issues at home? Do you have a battery tester? (I’ve mentioned a good but cheap one from AE on here a few times now, but if I mention it again, peeps will get suspicious Laughing )

My own 2017 had to have a new main battery last year, so yours must be well past it’s best, probs time to chuck another one on anyway, before it lets you down at a place and time most inconvenient to you.
It’s a consumable, just like brake pads and fluids.

“it just about started” is the clue, I guess……..

I got an Enduroline AGM 850CCA with a 5yr g’tee for under 200 quid from Tayna. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Yes Gremlin.
Like you my earths were all good when I checked them a few months ago and i did put some protection on them.
What has me guessing is that the car was on a long run and then this happened after a stop I thought this might help the battery? Mind you I would have been better off in a boat on this journey!
Yes it is always on a trickle so as you say would probably mask issues.
I will replace it and hope it solves things, will check on Tayna site, thx. overfinch modified

OK thx stan will do.

Just spoke to the dealer and it's double the price of the Exide from Tayna.
but they mentioned the aux battery as well so now I dont know which it needs. will have to get tested I suppose. overfinch modified

Hi Caymanblack,

Why not hold off a couple of weeks and get one of these & test them yourself? Then you always have the tool? Thumbs Up

You can see from the pic, even at 35% SOH, mine was still starting OK (also on a CTEK mostly at home).

But, I was experiencing (a) extreme difficulty downloading software updates (OTA), or (b) map updates (via USB), then later the tailgate started malfunctioning, and that gave the game away. Immediately I changed the battery, all was well, and the er, Gremlins went away...... Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad Laughing Mr. Green “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
