Hi All,

I have jut replaced the battery in my telematics control unit with a genuine LR one but I still have the error on the dash. I can clear it with my code reader but it comes back again straight away. It isn't an easy job to change as you need to remove half the dash to get the panel below the steering wheel out.

As it is a chargeable battery I figured I might need to run the car but after about 2 hours of running the error is still showing.

is there a reset process to tell the system a new battery has been fitted ? On one of the Jag websites it talks about pressing and holding the SOS button to do reset but I can't find anything on LR forums.

I measured the voltage of the old 4v battery and it was 3.85 which doesn't seem bad and I am surprised the systems thinks that is too low.

I am wondering if the issue could be related to something that happened when I was charging the main battery overnight. At 4am I received a call from the LR tracker company to say they had detected a voltage change on the car and that someone might be trying to steal it. No one was trying to steal it of course but it was good to know there are people out there monitoring my car.

The next day was when the SOS error appeared. It couldn't be related to me charging the battery could it ? 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black

Did you follow the instructions in the WM?

Prior to any work being undertaken on the telematics control module, confirmation is required if there is a stolen vehicle tracking subscription on the telematics control module. If there is stolen vehicle tracking subscription, the telematics control module will need to be placed into Service Mode by the customer in the InControl Smartphone app or on the InControl website. Failure to follow this instruction could result in theft notification alerts being activated

Could be the module is stuck in Service Mode, (or stuck in Alert mode) if it’s unaware it has had a new battery? Just postulating, I’m no expert!  “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I have purchase a battery for the telemetry unit.

The steps as I understand them are
1 Car in service mode via app or website
2 Disconnect Battery Negative termininal
3 Remove kick panel above drivers feet (could anyone advise me how i do this without breaking anything)
4 Remove Telemetry unit
5 replace 4.0v battery DPLA-70720-AA
6 Refit
7 Clear fault code for low battery in telemetry ECU
8 Car out of service mode
Hopefully when I drive the car for an hour the SOS limited functionallity message will goIs there anything else i should do.

Any tips for removing the plastic trim above the pedals, is it screwed or clipped into place?

The TCU battery test is that an MD diagnostic test or is it a function of an after market diagnostic tool for example IID Tool?

Can't comment on removing the trim, my experience with the TCU is on the 17/18MY vehicles which have it in a different place.

IID tool should be able to do it, needs the latest software.

I saw that Lambo 911who has a 2016 AB said it was a difficult job as he had to strip down half the dashboard so hopefully on a MY 15 it’s in the same place. Nothing worse than stripping half the dashboard out only to find out the TCU is located in the rear C pillar. I guess they must have moved it to wherever yours is at MY 16.5 or MY 17

You need to remove the centre console right hand side trim as the pedal box trim clips into it and then it's a simple few bolts. I think it's made overly difficult to reach!

I did the same on my L494 and pretty sure it's a similar setup.
