Richie, have you spoken to the seller yet? Asked what they suggest? It’s their responsibility to fix it so, I’d expect them to collect it! If not, it’ll be their decision whether to drive it to them or not… Save any corespondent you have, even emails sir… 👍

They are happy to fix it, but i have to get it to them. They told me to drive it, which I might if it didnt involve the m25! And I dont think its worth the risk with a garage on my doorstep.

All communication is via WhatsApp, i always like everything in writing! Very Happy

I have a 2012 and the list of issues when I bought it privately were quite long. None were catastrophic but all need attention at different levels of urgency. Its to be expected and I knew this when I bought mine as I had the same issue with the Discovery.

If you are nervous then for the sake of it pay the 150 to transport or have the dealer pick it up, surely they have a recovery truck? I know over here in Ireland the warranties on cars of this age are limited (usually 3 months) so maybe call the dealer with the issues and agree that they will fix all of them.

I would have loved the L405 shape on mine but the price difference between a 2012 L322 and a 6 month newer L405 is about €30,000. A body shape and massage seats arent worth that! I hope you get sorted soon and that you have many miles of leisurely driving in it.

They are a small, by appointment only outfit. Yes, you are right. Our last car, an X5, spewed its gearbox oil early in our ownership. 40k and 5 years later it was ultra reliable and no major issues.

Thanks Thumbs Up

Update. My local village garage gave it a good look over today and only found one or two minor issues. So thats great news, the car appears to have good bones!

They confirmed the cooler is leaking both oil and water down the bellhousing, and propose to fit a new Nissen cooler. I've told them to proceed, and also do the other weak points in that area..

If there is oil in the coolant, as the oil cooler is a heat exchanger so you tend to get a leak both ways, make sure they give the coolant a good flush. You may have caught it in time. My oil cooler had warped, so needed replacing. Some folk get away with just changing the seal, but you might as well get a new cooler to be sure.

Thanks 👍

My garage can’t give me a date and it may be two weeks before they can fix it. So I’m thinking of doing it myself. Is this a problem on the driveway over a week?

If I disconnect the battery how do I close the tailgate and lock the car and get back in? Will rain get in if I remove the panel under the windscreen?

I take it the supplying dealer has agreed to this, as you’re talking circa £800 to replace the cooler etc. 4x4 local Indy said it’s a 4.5hr job, had mine done in the first year of ownership. Not the easiest of jobs to do by all accounts. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Yes, absolutely. I’m not going ahead with anything without their consent in writing.

L405 must be practically the same as the L322 for this job…. I’m sure there is a how to somewhere, may be in the Wiki…

Thanks. I’m doing it now myself. So i disconnected the battery and the alarm went off! I think the car needs to be unlocked first.

So if I disconnect the battery how do I lock the car tonight (it’s on my drive). 🤷‍♂️

It appears the car needs to be unlocked before disconnecting so it will have to remain unlocked overnight.

Page 18 of the handbook linked to in the Wiki suggests you can just lock the doors with the emergency key blade. It's the US version of the book but I would be surprised if the UK car is any different?

No idea, my L322 has big sensible buttons on the doors, but I thought it might be worth a look. 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.
