Germany 2019 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Montalcino Red

Today I had time (and the ground wasn’t wet) - to remove the cover.

Depth there is 20mm, so 18mm realistically for the light. Width I think up to 40-45cm. Height in the lower part of the panel is 30mm.

So I am going to go for the shallower light and get the lens into the cutout.

@Zenman63 If you could post a picture of the wiring that would be helpful. SDV8 AB MY 2020

@both:

I’m following you guys on this, very interested.
Zenman63, what did you bond it with, UPVC solvent? i.e. a plastic-weld type solvent, or what?
(ABS plastics can be tricky to bond, and there’s a lot of water & UV light to consider on a bumper).

Pics & a write-up would be vastly appreciated by “The Brethren” , you might even make the Godly annals of the Wiki Hall of Fame Bow down Bow down Bow down Very Happy “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Cleaned…

Good enough to see my face in it. Laughing

The spare panel has arrived with family in the UK - Thank you @IPG. I will have it in hand at Easter. Have ordered a Hella (2ZR 980 889-011) reverse strip lamp. It should have plenty of room. Next I need to work out the wiring and plugs. SDV8 AB MY 2020

The colour is what tipped the scale into my buying my first RR.
But it needs to be cleaned again. The farm tracks leading to football pitches in the villages.

After looking and thinking about it. I am going to see if I can find the loom plugs so I can create 2 tap-in looms. That means I won’t cut any of the wiring on the car. And it will be easy to remove.

If other people want to also do this. They can easily make their own loom. This is true if they do or don’t have a tow bar. As the plugs are fitted on all cars (I think).

Does anyone which plugs are used? They look a bit like weather pack connectors. SDV8 AB MY 2020

Yikes! My monitor just cracked!!! Laughing Rolling with laughter

I have some lights on the way... they will be surface mounted... but they are smoked - so I don't think they will show on a Black truck and down that low... The cradle with the screws pops off, so for Proof of Concept, I am planning on some double sided sticky tape and wiring into the 7pin trailer connector.

If the lights look OK, then I will drill the holes in the center panel. I can get a replacement for that relatively cheap off eBay if I ever want to go back.

I started a new job and haven't had time to spend on this.

I have the parts (the panel and the light). However, I couldn't find the right type of plug to make a breakout patch for the tow bar; I am worried about splicing the wires. A new harness is €160 if I mistake.

Any ideas about who makes those plugs? SDV8 AB MY 2020

Perhaps Zenman63 will pick up on this, and post some pics, or eve do a “how to”?
@ Luxmoggy, do you have pictures of the loom plugs? Presumably this is normally for towbar/trailer electrical connections?

I prefer the idea of flush fit rather than surface mount, would this set-up pass an MOT? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I plan to cut out the panel so the light will be flush. Depending on the connector, I can always disconnect it and replace the panel. It will then be back to normal.

Studying the documents in the UK and DE, I don't think it will be an issue. The light has the EU/ISO stamp on it. There is nothing about the number just that it must switch on and off at the right times. SDV8 AB MY 2020
