I think it has the potential to be if they get the range over 300 miles and with a 800v system it should be pretty good. EV will suit the FullFats premise very well. Driving the L460 in EV was really good it just needed more power which the full BEV will have in abundance.

I am guessing they might still use gears like in the Taycan. MY23 PHEV HSE

i've watched what the tesla cybertruck can do and its really impressive... [0-60 in 2.6 secs]

it is ugly as hell but if JLR can harness that kind of power into the electric FF then they will have a winner.. ... - .- -.

Stan, how are new BEV rangies going to cope with towing a boat/horsebox/tailer? Have just spoken to the Polestar salesman and he admitted that towing will cut the range of a new model 3 from 320 miles real life to less than half. And it only tows 2.2.tonnes.

I would have thought improved battery technology, improved charging infrastructure and capability along with the fact that most FF arent driven around with anything attached to the towbar may make them an attractive vehicle assuming they dont go crazy with the price and the insurance is at a sensible level (big ask on that lot Wink ) BMW i3 Electric Car

James, i should imagine the EFF [electic full fat] with it being larger than a polestar will have more room for batteries and therefore will have the pulling power and range..

have a look at this cybertruck video,
&ab_channel=Tesla

also . how many EFF's will be towing... ... - .- -.

These cars are only one side of the plug, what's hardly ever mentioned is the lack of the powergrid. here in Europe powerstations can barely produce enough power to keep up with the current need. France is often importing electricity from Germany, and V.V. It's one of the reasons they install "Linkies" in every household (electricity distribution in control of the power companies) They can see what you are using your electricity for and switch you on or off. Imagine what will happen if the market changes for 30% to electric cars...

An other issue is environment...how will countries keep up with the need? Building more coal burning powerstations or back to nuclear power? We all know (exept the austriches with the head in the sand) that wind en solar power are not up to par. Here the developpers say it wil take at least another 20 years to produce enough "clean" power to cover the current need. (India has ordered 90 new coal burning powerstations last year only)

and then there is the battery production and recycle issue...

So blindly talking about speed, towingpower, range etc is nice for the exercise but the problem is a lot larger

Considering how LR have taken their range of cars even higher upmarket, and looking at the cost of the average L460, I would guess that very few of these cars will ever have a tow bar fitted, let alone be actually used.
It will be interesting to see what happens when they make a full electric Defender, but having said that, to date I have yet to see a 'New' defender actually towing anything.

Earlier this year in a dealership showroom, the price of one SV L460 I saw on show was £187.000. If someone is shelling out nearly £200.000 on a car, then I doubt that they will want to tow a caravan, and unlikely that you will see one of these with a trailer loading up at a builders merchant

@merchy

Yep but the rest of us mortals do do all those things with my/our current FFRR and so will not be going 'elec' any time soon.

And when I eventually do buy a L460, it will do all of those things.

I tried towing a mini digger in full EV mode on my l460 managed 35miles before it ran out of juice normal range at that time of year was about 50 miles. Didn't think it was bad and was fun to test, the BEV should be fine towing although I expect overall weight will reduce tow capacity similar to the PHEVs. Range impact will be interesting. MY23 PHEV HSE

I think the key question is how LR would manage to place/fit the needed 110+ kWh battery in the MLA flex platform? If they'd used a skateboard platform ala Rivian/EQG etc, it would be easier to fit sufficiently battery capacity in the EV L460. L460 P550e AB SWB MY24

But, what about when they get older and become less expensive? Unless of course by then they become virtually worthless as all of the batteries need to be replaced.
I could not have afforded my L405 when it was new (over £100,000) but at 7 years old it was affordable. And came fitted with a deployable tow bar Laughing
I go on holiday in Wiltshire a couple of times a year, and, whilst I could tow my caravan down there in an EV, there are no charging facilities at the site for recharging EV's. So if I plugged it (EV that is) into a normal 240v socket, I would not be able to drive until the next morning at the earliest as it would have used all it's power getting to the site. 2013 Vogue SE SDV8
