My PR’s (Passive Regens) never seem to do anything -the soot % still goes UP Embarassed
Slightly annoying when it won’t kick in, and you damn well know it’s ready to happen, and you’re getting further and further from home, then it eventually starts, but when it finally goes from “2” to “0” it waits until you’ve just passed a motorway exit, so it can fill up with as much soot as possible on the way back home Censored Censored Censored Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I have added soot, it’s around 17g, not sure if that’s a lot or not? Lots of passive reagens seen, as you say, but they do absolutely nothing as far as I can see! FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

James its OK at 17g, I think mine starts its AR just over the 20.5 gram mark and stops below 6 gram.

See url table of values.

The amber light on the dash comes on at 24.5 grams and goes off at 22.5 gram, the amber light is when you really need to take action. As your AR should have kicked in by that point and it soon goes to Red and just before Red further AR are inhibited, then you are truly Big Cry .

@KOT:

Umm, OK sorry if this is already been covered, but how do I equate grams to % soot?
Or, how do I display both using the Vgate gadget?
I also am not getting the “ miles since last regen” in my parameter list (TDV6)? Bow down Bow down Bow down “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

It’s all to do with the profile you are using, search all the pid’s (parameters) in your profile.
If there is nothing showing for soot in grams. I suggest you email the app owner and include your car details and what profile you are using and ask him to add that particular pid for your V6 or any others you fancy.
He is busy as he does other marques as well but he does get back to you eventually. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

@KOT:

Had a play with the Car Scanner Pro today in demo mode.
If you just select “all sensors” instead of a vehicle profile, you get much more choice, so I did it that way. Yet to try it on the vehicle Laughing
Not able to find Soot by grams rather than %, but not unhappy with that anyways.
I know mine will always refuse to do an AR until it hits the 50% mark (with all other parameters ready).

I still get DPF Paranoia when I’ve just checked it at 48% then the missus wants to use it for work that night Laughing Big Cry Embarassed “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Long trip to Wales this weekend, had been sitting at 100% trigger for weeks. As soon as the soot level passed 20ish grammes along the A55 it went straight to active regen. After a good 20 mins regen it had dropped to below 7g. Superb. Bow down FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

100% for weeks. I know what this is. And this is the reason I have the km since last regen and average km between regen.
An active regen works for me in the following way.

1. At soot 100% and km since last regen is 752km (in my case): active regen starts - as I monitor these values I can make sure I am on the motorway when this happens

2. For about 5-10km the temperature of the exhaust raises to 500-600C

3. once at these temperatures I can see the km since last active regen start to drop

4. once this is 0km the soot is still 100%. - at times if I have to slow down now the active regen ends and won’t retrigger until 752km

5. For about 5-10km the temperature remains high - have see it get hotter - the active regen finishes and the soot% drops to 7-10% - the km since last active regen can read a few km at this point.

Reading reminds me I must check the soot grams - as I don’t have this on my screen. I don’t see it in the profile I am using. I have to check this with the GAP tool. SDV8 AB MY 2020

So today I debunked the theory that you need 1/4 tank of fuel or more for an AR.
I missed a day yesterday when I didn't use the app.
Today I had a Dr appointment and yes, you guessed it trigger was already at 100% when I started her up (I had missed a AR yesterday and interrupted it)! Whistle
I was close to low fuel light on dash, 53 miles to empty! but the soot was already showing 22.5g just 2g from an amber.
No problem I thought, enough fuel to get to next fill up point, not enough to allow an AR, then of course AR started! just enough time to make the appointment Rolling with laughter 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

I have to admit I’ve wondered why the 1/4 tank rule would be a thing when in reality the regen only lasts for say 20 miles or so?

Well done on catching it Laughing Soot now back down? FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

Yes down to 5.5g at the end of AR, shows how just relying on the % pid puts you in the dark. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

I am looking in "Car Scanner" I can only see "Calculated soot in oil" in grams. Is this the correct sensor for the soot grams? SDV8 AB MY 2020
