United States 2006 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Buckingham Blue

For $125... I can get another '16 wire loom...
Just butt connect into that...

Although the guy who sold me the shifter said he has a '15MY L405 on the yard... I may be able to get it cheaper from him. He is headed home for the weekend - but if I can't find the female - that may be the way to do this.

That may be deeper into the bowels of my truck than I would like to venture
The eBay pic of this L405 loom - not sure which is 7 wires... possibly this connector

Well you could, personally I'd just spice the pigtail you have into the existing harness so you have both connectors available should you want/need to switch back to the original rotary gear selector.

7 wires is a lot... if it were 4... I'd think about it.
Fabbing the pigtail is the most elegant way to go in my opinion...

I will check out that connector. I am sure that shipping will be more than the plug.

Hey now... what do we think about this?

One step closer, my brothers... one step closer to the possible end of the Maytag Delicates knob...

Phoenix - did I read that right? Did they really do 2 Green/Orange Wires?!?!? Which is which?

The mounting 'decks' appear to be 2mm higher in the front - if that is an issue, there is plenty of meat to grind down in the back, or use spacers up front.

If anyone want to donate to this madness... BOLO for a 12 pin female to mimic the bottom of the spinny knob - Phoenix 'reckons' this will work... https://www.auto-click.co.uk/6098-5277 2006 L322 HSE LUX 4.4NA Jag V8 Buckingham Blue/Ivory - 'Col Reb'

Yes, there is - one is a 'single' the other is part of a twisted pair with the Grey-Blue. Just expose a bit more of the harness to find which one is the twisted pair.

I am thinking it must be Pins 2&3 on my diagram... I could not find a marking to see the official Pin number...
The other Green/Orange is all by itself over by the Positive in Pin 9.

It just keeps getting better!!!
My Ebay Parts Friend... scavenged the connector off of a dead spinny knob...

That would make sense - the way to confirm absolutely is to measure the DC voltage to ground, CAN lines will fluctuate 2-3V on each one. Difficult to say what the other one will be, probably a minimum of 4.5V but it will be steady.

This is a little busy - I apologize... If this actually works - I will clean it up and maybe do a video
Use this information at your own peril!!!

This is the original L405 Connector that I will unplug from the Spinny Knob.
The diagram is as if you are looking in the back where the wires protrude.

This should be correct - from Phoenix' Wiring Diagram

Here is what I think will be the pin to pin conversion:

Let's get one thing straight, JDGeorgia. What you've done with that Range Rover isn't just tinkering in the garage – it's pioneering! And I've seen a few car projects in my time. This isn't just swapping out a headlight or getting posh leather seats. No, this is ground-breaking stuff!

If Land Rover had an actual hall of fame – and frankly, they should – there'd be a massive gold plaque with your name on it right at the entrance. A tip of the hat to you, sir! An absolute petrolhead legend you are!

That looks good to me, there will be a marking somewhere on the L494 plug to indicate pin 1, but your reasoning makes sense.

@Salsbury - flattery will get you everywhere!
I am sure if JLR gets wind of this there will be 6,354 warnings about no liability, cease and desist, covid vaccine, yadda yadda.
Jeep used to fully acknowledge shade tree innovators - Now they make 2WD Wranglers and encourage you to put rubber duckies on each other's hood. Tragedous I tell you... Tragedeous.
In today's litigious society - they have to crack a wry grin about this kind of stuff at home whilst enjoying a G&T. I will be honest - I have never had a Gin and Tonic, but if this comes off - I just may.

I stand on the shoulders of giants - Between the info dished out by Andy S, Bora 20, aljo and especially Phoenix - I am just the one stupid enough to try...

It is not done - YET. I am not the world's best with a soldering iron... and these are small wires. My fat sausage fingers don't work so well on tiny parts (ask the last iPad I tried to fix).

What does the Hive Mind think? 16GA wire? 18 GA wire? Solder and heat shrink?
I may have to solder up some test looms just to get back in practice...

Found this on how to use the RRS Selector - ?si=g58POh63pc9o3sbF

DrF - I think the "P" button on top is a shortcut to Park and not the parking brake. The video shows an EPB like we have.

Sitting on my bench - the selector will not dip left for Sport Mode - it must need to register the fact that it is in Drive to open that gate or something.

I may have to stop by my local friendly JLR 'Main' Dealer to test drive a '14 Sport - just to whette the whistle before I can get this wired up. 2006 L322 HSE LUX 4.4NA Jag V8 Buckingham Blue/Ivory - 'Col Reb'

I looked for a mark on the male L494 connector - if it is there, it is too small for these old eyes.

@Phoenix - do you have a link to possible 'Pins' for the L405 side? I don't think it is as small as 20ga wire... 16 or 18?

I am sure this plastic cover sat down on pins embedded in a PCB.

If we start mass producing pig tails (and we won't...) It might be worth it to see if that connector you had a link to would work. We would then have to find the 10 pin male L494 side. 2006 L322 HSE LUX 4.4NA Jag V8 Buckingham Blue/Ivory - 'Col Reb'
