TDV8 Oil, is C2 acceptable?

Asking for a friend, who is going around the houses for oil for his ´12 4.4 TDV8.

We know the correct spec, per the owner's manual, it states ACEA C1 (I assume for ash and the DPF) the local motor factor says ACEA C2 is better and okay...I´m not sure, personally, I only use the absolute correct spec.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks,

Use correct spec. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

C2 can be used if you can't get C1 and it's better than old oil contaminated with soot and diesel. While C1 is classed as 'low ash' that doesn't mean no ash and on an old DPF on a car with a lot of miles it's likley not a big issue esp if you get some C1 next service. Most important thing is the correct viscosity rating. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Agree with all of the above, thank you.

If it were me, and like I always do, I’d use the correct spec oil. But this is on behalf of a mate who’s bagged a 2012 Westie. Two Westies in our small local Spanish town tickles me.

Getting correct spec oil here takes ages and the choice is very limited so I thought it was at least worth an ask regarding the C1, obviously, viscosity is non-negotiable. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

C2 is still a low ash oil, but not as low as C1

Can't see it causing any issues for short term use though

Does your car have a DPF, also have a full read of the handbook if its a Spanish delivered and spec car. My 2007 3.6 Australian spec says 10w40 for hot climates. Australian 4.4`s don't have DPF`s. 2007 TDV8 VSE

The query is for a friend, but we have the same, 4.4 TDV8 with DPF and EGR originally a UK car. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior
