Deployable Side Steps Lubrication

Hello,
So 2 weeks ago the passenger side steps got stuck in the out position. I gave it a kick and it fixed it until now. Tonight it stuck out again. What points do I need to lubricate or just any moving part?
it is just over a week until the service and I can ask them to do something.
Thanks

I needed to search for "deplorable" side steps to find some information. Has anyone dismantled the side steps to lubricate them? How easy is this to do? Or should I leave for the garage to do? SDV8 AB MY 2020

Give them a good pressure wash at the hinges and use a WD40 lithium grease spray on them 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

I use ACF 50 twice a year, it seems to work OK, not tried the WD40 Li product.
Messy stuff though! Cardboard your driveway!
Ashamed to say STILL got a pair of spare OEM steps to refurb, a bargain £70 off eBay, just built my wet sandblaster kit last Weekend, might have a play tomorrow…..
Got some “TANK” black truck bed epoxy paint to do it with, but my once lovely double garage is now a gymnasium/tarts boudoire with a kinky soft rubber floor, treadmill, weights bench, and 21 spotlights, so not going to spray any horrid sticky black paint in there! Even the spiders have moved out! And has it been used as demanded by the outnumbering females in the household? No! Censored
Maybe I should blast the garage, not the steps? Twisted Evil “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

So I pressure-washed them today. And did the lubrication. They are still stuck.

When I open the door it jumps a bit - same as before. But no movement when I close the door.

I can't make noise tomorrow - Sunday’s Law in Germany. So I can't do anything more until Monday.

Are there any other Ideas? SDV8 AB MY 2020

Did you use ACF 50 to lube?
My passenger side step was totally seized and “twitching”. I soaked all pivot points in ACF 50, and left for 24 hrs, then levered the steps out with a short pry bar, but then it got stuck “out” so then had to beat them with a few kicks inwards as closing the door but applying more ACF 50 beforehand. Then I just operated the steps 20-30 times, having it hooked up to the CTEK to save the battery.
Crazy there is no way to lube these steps properly, they don’t even have the DU or DX “Glacier” self-lube bushings, which have been around for decades! 🙄 “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I surmise, because they have the self reversing anti trap torque motor. If they gave you a lubrication point, would this not change the amount of torque necessary to reverse the motor?

The kicks didn't seem to help. But laying on my back and doing to two-leg push really helped.
It is now going in and out as expected.
So I used the wD40 White Lithium twice yesterday.
And again today a few times (after pushing it) as I got it to go in and out. Will do the same in a few days. To really work it in. SDV8 AB MY 2020

I remember seeing a post on here where someone had removed a cover plate from the side step mechanism and cleaned all the debris out of it. Unfortunately I can’t re-find it with search.

I recall it made a big difference to smoothness of operation and freed up one step that was stuck.

I need to do some preventative maintenance on mine as the drivers step is getting notchy when deploying.

If post the link if I refind it. TDV8 4.4 2012

Next time try this little trick. Press the open button, then stand on the step that is sticking out. Then lock the car (while still standing on the step), step off the step, then unlock and lock the car. This usually resets the step. Than lubricate as above. 2017 (67) Vogue SE Corinthian Grey

I have the issue of female purchases that are never utilised. Must be in the genes

I sssume you have your own man cave somewhere else …. ? Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

@Bill:

Glad you enjoyed that, it’s “dual purpose” so doubles as my man-cave, all my tools are safely locked away in a corner cupboard…..

You need to take a look at the “Drunk Purchases” thread on here, and maybe get involved? Rolling with laughter
