TJH1985...

It's a June 2014 with 72,000 miles, it's actually better than I thought and yes it will have a substantial amount more of anticorrosion under there than when new...

Gremlin...

It's actually 1mm sticky back silicon sheet so it won't compress, it's also so tough it's untrue, you can't dent or rip it and it should outlast the car...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0963W1287?smi...p&th=1

All the bits are back from the powder coaters looking good....

And yet more open cell foam at the front of the sill.... WHY IS THIS.... anyone know....???

Need some plastic trim clips as some have seen better days... back to Duckworths...

 Pete

I’d love to do this work as a preventative but don’t have a lift … how much would you reckon you need to separate the carrier from the body to be able to do the work ? V8 or else ...

TJH1985, Thanks...

fisha,

I take it you mean to sort the corrosion.... By the time you have removed the propshaft and exhaust, the brake pipes and airbag lines, unplugged all the electrics to drop the subframe any distance you have done enough to drop it out... don't think you could drop it far or have enough access without removing all that...

Doing it on the floor would be a challenge but it would be possible...

If you get that far you may as well change the ARC pipe and the rear coolant pipes as well, save doing it all again for a few years.... Thumbs Up Pete

Parts look great, Pete. Any idea of the part number for this particular bracket? I am trying to order one but can find it in any parts list or exploded view?

NoHandSignals.

Sorry not a clue on the part number it should be called,

"cheap mild steel bracket with poor finish designed to set up galvanic corrosion and wreck your £100,000 car"

Ask Robin at Duckworths, he will find it on the parts diagram... Thumbs Up

Fisha,

There is a lot that can be done to help prolong the life of fatty while it's all in pieces and it seems daft not to, my mate is away till the 3rd now and I have a lot on, changing the pipes seems like a two man job so I'm just going to do a day or so of cleaning up and treating areas.... I've ordered a load of new clips and some stainless nuts and bolts to replace a lot of the smaller fixings, I'm lucky in that no bolts stripped or galled so will just treat them all to some Tef Jel.

Note,

Changing bolts to stainless does not reduce the risk of galvanic corrosion, you still have dissimilar metals in contact and the sacrificial anode is still the aluminium. all it does is prevent the bolt or nut from rusting, you still have to use Tef Jel or similar to separate the two metals as much as you can....

The front pipe turned up like this, there is some plating on these pipes but it is very thin and will not last...

I used a scotchpad on them, then degreased, then a light coat of etch primer

Finally a coat of Dinitrol 4941 which dries but doesn't harden and self heals

Hopefully it will live for many years..... Pete

I spoke to Pat at GAP and it's not on the IID yet but it is on the list to include it, now more and more owners will be changing pipes....

I have a mate with a fully working SDD setup, he has kindly offered to pop up and do it, there is also an ex JLR guy up here who has the setup as well so shouldn't be a problem.... Thumbs Up Pete

I asked cause I knew the IID couldn’t do it when I added water to the fluid accidentally and ran into that problem then … good to hear they might look at adding it down the line.

You mentioned earlier about reading and dis-counting the hoses … having now taken the old off and ready to fit the new ( but same steel ) pipes, has your view changed at all ? V8 or else ...

I dare say with enough testing you could successfully replace these hoses with hydraulic hose but, IMHO, it would be a lot of work to get it fully sorted by which time you may as well just replace the pipes, they last 8 years'ish with no coating, a good coat of antirust and they should last a considerable time.... Pete
