My MY14 (Nov 13) is still showing as no recall - I don't know whether I'm reassured or concerned

Apparently mine is all fixed with 2 new knuckles and one replacement offside strut which was mashed when the knuckle failed. JLR refused to replace the near side strut to match the offside one as it wasnât damaged. I will now have to put up with a car with a car with one 8 year old damper and one new one unless I shell out for a new one myself |

Slightly concerning that a grease monkey throws some engineers blue on it with I dont feel is a scientific crack detection system.
Well thats all good, it must be true if it's written.
I'm glad your confidence in your car has been restored, I dont think I would have accepted anything less than replacement parts. It's no consolation if the cracks appear next week or it throws you down a motorway embankment having it in writing that the grease monkety said it's ok. Absolutely, the situation is ridiculous. Cleaning off the joint and putting engineers blue or similar on it wont show cracks that are present and clearly in no way guarantees cracks wont develop. If the components are within the suspect range they should be changed before someone loses their life with one of these failures. BMW i3 Electric Car

Fortunately having an older car Iâm not involved in this debacle but out of interest have followed the threads with interest. Has it ever crossed anyoneâs mind that the seemingly ever growing problem is down to the fact that the knuckle joint design is fundamentally flawed. IMO to design a joint with two dissimilar metals then aggravate the issue by using a pinch bolt to initially stress one of the components during the assembly is plainly wrong. There is then the fact that the dubious joint is subject to various liquids when in use which will undoubtedly cause corrosion within the joint producing solid salts material which will further stress the joint. I doubt jlrs comment notion the road salt has any bearing on the issue but if they suspect it has why didnât they design out the problem.

Engineers blue is used when mating to flat surfaces together then file/grinding paste to remove the high spots. No way is it every used to find cracks. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue |

Thank you - that's really helpful and explains some of the vague dates. It reassures me as the owner of an early MY14 that I shouldn't be affected - though it's now one of my semi-regular checks.
