I think that the paint you use has to have a plasticiser if you’re doing large areas, it bonds and keeps the paint flexible, I think Thumbs Up

As i speak,my entire cup holder is now covered in a plastic primer,(looks better already) , tomorrow i shall rub it down and re coat, then i wll respray the whole thing in a metalic paint i bought in Halfords which looks a real match. Time will tell how good a match. i would post pics but havent got a clue how to. Thumbs Up

DO NOT USE THIS TAMIYA PAINT it bubbles up the remaining finish where the two paint types make contact, it might have worked on a cup holder but it certainly doesn't work to touch up the rear centre consol.

It reacts and makes a simple touch up job 10 x worse and looks a bloody mess. The two paint types are not compatible.

no worries, not your fault, I should have tried it on an inconspicuous spot first Thumbs Up

on another subject a company was selling a walnut trim to cover this section of the rear consol as a quick fix. I can't find it anywhere - checked the usual sources powerful and pimp my range etc but no luck, think it might have been a company in the US of A.... anybody got any ideas?

Thank god its not me being a pratt.

My cup holder reacted so badly, and yes it bubbled up and peeled off, even inside the holder where i hadnt touched. It blistered.

My fix was totally strip it with smooth fine glass paper. Clean it and dry it. Using a plastic primer (Halfords) gave it a couple of generous coats 2 hrs between each coat.

Finally i sprayed it with a Ford aerosol metallic grey the actual colour is out in the garage, and although im keen its tipping it down outside so i will get the name of it tomorrow.

The result is brilliant,in fact i would go so far as to say i intend to do the lot, when i have time,as its going to be far more durable then RRs atempt.

Hope this helps. Thumbs Up

Has it stopped raining long enough for you to get out to the garage and check the paint colour yet?

I've tried a couple of Ford colours and can't get a decent match.

Is the foundry colour the same as the outside vents and bonnet vent? If it is Rover steel grey is a good match. Joe90 is to thank for that one! Thumbs Up I sprayed my bonnet vent last week with it.

I don't think so. The outside bits are Brunel grey and aren't as metallicy.

Found 2 sites in USA. They seem to have a much bigger range than anyone over here.

Www.wooddash.com and www.burlwooddash.com

They do plastic and real wood trim kits. The prices seem quite good for the size of the kits. The only problem is that certain parts are different for left hand drive (door switches etc.)

Hope this is of use. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

I have carried out a test on a piece of console trim as I wanted the textured finish but in a darker colour than the foundry. Similar to the new ones. Here are some pics of the test stuff. Ignore the quality of the paint job as it was a rush job and I need to respray it to look better, but after drying it has evened out over the plastic and is a little more textured than the genuine foundry finish but it might look more rugged in theme for an off road car.

It is Rustoleum textured in Aged Iron, will see if it reacts over time as it is meant for metal.

Foundry piece on the top, my painted piece on the bottom.
