After getting the serious stuff out of the way, I'm now in a position to play around with those minor niggles that let the car aesthetics down.

First of all, got myself a couple rattle cans of Land Rover LBO aka Brunel Grey or Brunel Chrome. I ordered them from my local paint store and had them within a week.
I also got a 250ml can of Java Black although I'm only going to use drops for some stone chips.

First one was the boot lid horizontal strip:

Absolutely atrocious and chipped



Some wrapping and masking, that was the only difficult part.

After some sanding and not less than eight coatings...



Looks factory fresh from a few meters away!

Wouldn't it be easier just to remove it with a blade and paint it off the car? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I thought about it but it's glued and therefore runs the risk of bending out of shape.

You can run a thin knife under it from the bottom. Clean off the mastic with brake cleaner/ lighter fluid and re attach with double sided trim tape. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

You are correct. I just didn't have the guts to do that. I always tend to avoid anything even remotely likely to open another can of worms...which tends to happen more often than not with our cars

Next up, from the bottom of the bucket list this time, come the headlamp wipers.

Decided to do them in situ. The caps aren't in their best shape but everything works and as I already had a pair stolen, I have them glued on. I might replace the whole assemblies if and when the right ones show up.

And closing the day with the rear seat latch trims. Looked horrible and were the first ones I noticed when I bought the car. Middle one is unaffected so I assume this is UV damage.

Paint peels off by the fingernails. Some wet sanding with P600 helps break down the layer and speed up the process. Can't afford to have any spot left as the coating is readily detached. Didn't bother to do the undersides though. Not visible and besides I wouldn't want any fresh paint in touch with the upholstery

Top job, makes a big difference...

If you do any more plastic parts then get an aerosol of Plastic Adhesion Promoter, it's a clear product that you spray on plastic and it helps the paint stay on longer....  Pete

Thanks Pete! I'll make sure to ask my local paint shop about the adhesion promoter. I have a long list of plastics to be done actually.

It's well worth using it, it's like spraying water so easy to get runs, a few light coats is best, I've found using the minimum amount of paint on plastic improves it's longevity.......

Mine was split so I covered it in vinyl and then colour matched it with leather paint....

I have a crack or two on the driver's side but not as bad as yours. I'm pretty confident I can get it epoxy glued, then sanded and painted over. There's also a spot where the metal trim has peeled but it's not cut or cracked. I think I can slide a tiny amount of glue underneath and stick it back on properly.
I considered having both sides vinyl wrapped or even leather wrapped but no one here is willing to take on the challenge for love nor money...

There's a VW plastics adhesion promoter in a spray can, works very well as a paint prep and as a cleaner/tack spray for repairing broken bits with epoxy etc. I'll dig out the part number on Monday.

The seat side trim is that waxed plastic, the epoxy I tried would not glue it well. melting it with a soldering iron works but paint didn't want to stick to it well either....

It was pretty easy to cover it with vinyl, contact adhesive on both sides then lay it over the top and start to stretch around the edges, with leather it would be much harder....  Pete
