Well that's what I did do in my message Haylands but now I think about it I don't see how it could work as I wouldn't be able to leave the car with them.

Thinking out the box again here...

When I had my main battery tested (by a good friend, whom I trust) as my start stop wasn't working not only did he find the cause of that (bad cell in the main battery) but he also did a charging system test and I've just remembered he told me that his tester was showing a fault with the charging system.

Now I haven't had a flat battery and I can see the voltage rises up when running to charge the battery but could this be something to look at?

Could it be a bad ground or something affecting the systems?

I know these have a common issue with the ground in the drivers side wheelarch but that's normally accompanied by a load of fault messages on the dash which I've never experienced.

I do sometimes get a random error beep on startup but never any accompanying message to tell me what's faulting.

Cleaned up the drivers and passenger side ground points today (behind the front arch liners)

Little bit of corrosion but not too bad. I was lucky in that mine came undone just fine and didn't snap off like others.

All cleaned and refitted then covered in grease (good preventative maintainance I suppose)

I've also had the fuse (fuse 55 in the boot, for the adaptive damping) out over night in an attempt to reset any 'adaptions' in the module.

Went out at 11am and first difference, it didn't crash over the ridge at the top of my close.

Today the engine has been responsive, the steering light and the suspension had some suppleness to it.

First day I've enjoyed driving the car since the week I bought it.

Even stopped in a field for picnic on my lonesome.

No doubt it'll be back to being cr*p tomorrow but we live in hope...

Oh and an update on my damaged mirror cover, I managed to find one in the correct colour on ebay which was removed from a new car for just £25! So that's all sorted now and you'd never know

It's at a point now where I'll take any excuse not to drive this car.

It's not pleasurable in any way, hard to steer, laggy engine with thumpy gear changes and a ride stiffer than an M sport BMW on run flats.

I've just wasted nearly £500 on an iiD tool to see if I could recalibrate the adaptive damping but that option is seemingly unavailable on L405.

Use the tool to check the outputs from the 3 CVD accelerometers if this hasn't already been done. Initially check the values whilst stationary and while travelling slowly on a smooth surface in a straight line when they should all be about the same and not jumping about.

Yes I've done that Graeme and they aren't jumping about or 'swinging' the values don't change until I drive.

I need to figure out how the 3 complaints are connected and why the 3 cars have all been the same/very similar.

I know this can't be right as my early 2009 L322 was NOT like this at all.

Your recent cleaning of earth points sounded hopeful as a poor earth somewhere could affect many systems, but obviously not those earth points.

Was the ambient temperature and time of day on the good day after cleaning the earth points similar to those of the following day when the symptoms returned?

I'm soon to try to remotely assist the owner of a 12-month old Defender that has an unusually harsh ride compared with a neighbour's identical vehicle. A big difference between his vehicle and yours is that when a shock's electrical connector is unplugged the ride doesn't seem to get any worse. 2 LR dealers can't find anything wrong so he has just purchased an IIDtool that hopefully will help indentify the cause. The LR dealers didn't monitor any live values, only running self-diagnostics on the chassis module and a seat of pants comparision with another vehicle, albeit on the smooth surburbian roads unlike the rougher roads where he lives.

My ride does get significantly worse when unplugging a shock connector and inducing an adaptive dynamics fault.

There has to be something connecting the 3 systems I complain about to end up having a laggy feeling engine, stiffer than expected steering and a harsh ride. But what is it?

Thought I'd made progress yesterday as I used the IID to reset gearbox adaptions, engine adaptions and throttle adaptions which seemed to cure the engine lag for 6 or so drive cycles but the laggy feeling returned on the 7th cycle or so.

Having had 3 RRs that behave like this and one that didn't does point the finger at me but the fact that sometimes it is 'ok' is what stops me accepting I'm the fault.

I remember some time ago watching some Sam's Motor and Machine videos on YouTube. He had some long running issues with a hard ride on his L322. It could be worth reaching out to him if he ever managed to resolve the problem. I believe he tried quite a few avenues for resolution. He's also on here, but I don't know his username.
