Rear wheel arch protection second thoughts

I’ve been a long advocate of protecting the leading edge of the rear wheel arches with Freelander 2 trims but after 2 years I removed mine and surface rust has appeared.
Quickly resolved with some Neutra Rust 661 as per Sam’s Motor and Machine YouTube video on the same subject.

Before.

After

Also removed wheel arch liner and very little rust behind. All waxoyled and will remove every 2 years or so
Thumbs Up

So, I won’t be replacing the Freelander 2 trims in leading edge Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Good idea to discuss, yes I found the same on my L322 having fitted the edge protection and have now removed them. I intend to pull the rear arch liners every couple of years and address any new rust spots, I did that last winter and found some light surface corrosion on a previously treated area so rubbed it all back and epoxy primered the susceptible areas before top coating with chassis black and then a liberal coating of grease.

Any thoughts from the collective minds on what's the best protection for that metal arch area?
I've rubbed down and treated with NeutraRust661 and now deciding what to do next.
Epoxy paint has been suggested on the Book of Faces Whistle Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I've gone:

- Abrade back to bare metal
- Rust treatment stuff (can't recall the brand but the stuff which goes on milky-white and dries blue/black
- Epoxy primer
- Chassis black
- Buckingham blue topcoat rattle can/clear coat on visible areas (although I left the outside edge of the wheel arch lip flange in chassis black as it will get battered by stones and is in a 'dark hole' area anyway)

Plan is to
1) Paint over the Neutrarust661 treated arch lip with epoxy primer then
2) Metal paint then
3) thin layer of Hammerite underseal
4) Monitor and react as appropriate Rolling with laughter

No costs as I’ve got all this in stock 😂

A timely post - I was just about to fit the Freelander 2 protectors that have been sitting in the garage for 2 years! Kurust and Hammerite (old stock, full strength) is now the plan, served me well on the TVR chassis over the years. 2011MY 4.4TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue

The LR protectors aren’t too bad, think I’ve had 3 sets, but they corrode eventually too as there is a metal strip along them to add rigidity. I think the rust there then makes the arch worse when it starts, so you have to whip them off in time.
