Battery drain - 2011 5.0SC - new AGM battery

Hi all

I've been seeing the low battery warning recently and installed a new battery as the old one was 10yrs old. From what I saw the new battery fitted by Halfords was not coded to the car.

Now I am still seeing the warnings, just a day after after a 240m round trip. I have a clamp meter on order to check the drain and have read thru the boards but most of the discussions are around older L322 with headlight wipers. Mine does not have them.

Are there any likely candidates for a fuse check? I sat in the car today, locked the car and waited. There was a fan noise for about a min or two, then it stopped. It briefly kicked off for 10-15 secs after a couple more minutes but didn't come to life again for the next few mins.

Any pointers would be great.

Thanks

You don't "have" to code the battery in but it will take a while for the car to learn it has a new one, you could try charging the new battery overnight... Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks. I’ve had it on a trickle charger and it’s now showing full.

Still no idea where the leak could be!

Could also be a failing alternator. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Usual culprits if not are a failing alternator as JayGee suggests, or the final stage resistor "hedgehog". 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Hi. just to follow up, I used my icarsoft diag box to run a voltage check with the engine on. I only saw between 11.8 and 12.2v rather than the 14.5ish I’ve been led to believe to expect. Would this point to a failing alternator? Thanks.

With a smart charging system the alternator doesn’t put out full voltage all the time. Try switching on every electrical load and see if it goes up. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
