Regarding the steering in the video … I’m not 100% sure that you can quantify how light the steering is from watching the video compared to yours. I’ve watched it a few times now, and also tried to drive like it, and find that I can hold the wheel in a similar manner without too much fuss.

I wouldn’t say the steering feels light on mine when driving like that… there is some weight to it, but i can hold it, turn with pinch holding the wheels between thumb and first finger sort of thing. My evoque was much lighter in normal driving though.

I don’t think i would want it lighter, it disconnects feel if too light. V8 or else ...

Alignment
Balancing
Tyres
Bushes
Springs/bags
Active roll
Dampers

If you’ve gone through them all and they all check out, then it’s just how it is….. they are the only bits which connect the car to the road.

In terms of variable symptoms, everything in there is mechanical, ie will only deteriorate, apart from the things which have control circuits. So Damping, ARB and bags. To my mind, the bag circuit controls pressure in the bags. If the car is sitting at the correct height in all 4 corners, at normal, then that is probably working Ok. If the pressure was to high, low or uneven then the height would change and that would be obvious.

ARB control, could affect ride - worth checking fluid, and that the reservoir has been replaced as part of the service schedule at some point.

Active damping. 🤷‍♂️ not really any way of checking that if it’s not throwing a fault.

Mine, which is the same as yours, 16MY AB 4.4SDV8 with active roll on 56000, does similar, isn’t as good as my 3.6 tdv8 07 ride wise, or my 12 4.4, the suspension tends fidget a bit on broken surfaces, I get a bit of tram lining, and my 2010 D4 van rides better, is quieter over broken surfaces and just feels more solid. In my mind the active damping on the 12 and 16 is what has changed the ride for the worse over the 07 and D4.

I’ve given up caring though. Only when I get a knock or banging does it get looked at, I’ve decided it is good enough. I can’t remember if I’ve had it on a Hawkeye since I’ve had it. But it could probably do with doing as it’s not been on one in a couple of years at least. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

i've been following this thread from the start and my tdv6 ride has been ok until recently where i think i caught this 'ride virus'

about 10 days ago on and off mine was feeling a lot of potholes etc so being bored a few days ago waiting for wife in shops i played with the terrrain knob , going through the range ..
since then i've found the ride much improved and back to its normal comfort..

could be a coincidence or some kind of landrover voodoo working.. ... - .- -.

I do think its low Recordman but without comparisons for others I can't confirm if it is low for an l405

I agree with your thought process there Fisha.

I replaced the main battery as my start stop wasn't working and a drop test showed a bad cell.

Replaced the secondary battery at the same time because they were both original!

So in theory it should all be good. Shows over 14v running so alternator is working.

I think that NorthernMonkeyJones hits the nail on the head with the usual causes of a harsh ride. This is for those who have a consistent frustration on the ride quality, and is a good guide for people to follow when working through their issues.

Your “sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't” issue is a separate one, and I’m sure the most frustrating too. If you manage to resolve that and have a consistent ride you can then work on the ride quality when its at its “best”, if you feel the need to.

Reading over the various posts, the WSM article feels to me like the best area to concentrate on. In my mind it’s a good possibility to being a cause of, or related to, your heavy steering and *may* be having an effect on other parts of your car too.

When your batteries were replaced, was the car “told” about them?

12v seems low from what I know (gleaned from this very forum) and I wonder if there is some form of power draw causing it? Similar to the FSR issue on the L322’s?
And could this be caused by the BCM?
If you haven’t done so, maybe check both batteries separately and when not connected to the car to see if that makes much difference? That may then help to eliminate the batteries and/or a power draw on the car…

The only other thoughts I have are to do with the battery and earth connections. You mention that you checked them before… but could it be another earth terminal elsewhere? Or the battery terminal connections themselves?

If you’ve checked everything but still have an issue then it may be worth rechecking them again in case anything was missed previously. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

There is no "necessity" to inform the FF it has a new battery, it will help in the short term but after a while it relearns all on it's own.....  Pete
