2011 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

New Suspension Issue/s

I've been having issues with lowering from extended height to normal pretty much since I got this RR last year; it states in extended mode and refuses to go down (just the front, or so it seems) but after repeated selection of the down toggle it will come down without further complaints. I'm assuming this will be a clogged pressure release valve filter. New filters on order.

A new issue has just recently 'raised' its head, or should that be 'lowered'...

When leaving the car for a short period of time, the front of the car will be very low. OSF being the lower of the two. So I plugged in my diagnostics (snapon) and forced the suspension to extended mode and as it rose, an air whooshing noise got louder as it got higher, slowing its ascent as it got louder and basically failing to get to full extension. Sounds like an air leak coming from OSF.

Fault codes stored were C1a13 - that'll be the blocked filter and C1130 - that'll be the OSF air spring with a leak in it. Damnit.

Went to http://www.Aerosus.co.uk and bought a pair of front air springs for £189 delivered! I am somewhat shocked by how cheap this was. Cam

Got the OSF strut off and it didn't take long to find the problem. The split is normally hidden by the fold of the bag and explains how the suspension would work 'OK' until left, where it would slowly lower.

The strut is easy enough to strip down. A bit trickier to reassemble due to the new seals and relative stiffness of the new air spring. I discovered a potential problem when it was stripped, there was some minor marks on the part of the shock body that forms the air-tight seal. They looked like clamp or vice indentations and I was concerned about potentially damaging the new air seals, so I was able to remove the burrs with just some brown scotchbrite pad, then polishing compound.

With the strut reassembled with the new air spring and fitted back in the RR, the suspension now performs as it should. I even left it on offroad high setting overnight and no hint of having lowered at all in the morning

Sorted then. Not sure too many have tried the cheaper air springs. Hopefully prove reliable in the long term.

I drilled the filter years ago. No issues since.
