Fisha,

It could be the dampers binding up but I imagine that'd only be 1 out of the 4.

As I keep mentioning my last 2 L322s with CVD dampers also felt like this which is what I can't get my head around.

Guess I cannot confirm without removing them.

Dhallworth,

I could do that but I spent a ridiculous amount of money with various people on the last 2 l322s trying to figure this out (see my own previous threads and my posts on landymansams thread 'help me out with the suspension on my famous l322'

On the first facelift l322 I replaced all 4 dampers with none adaptive units and programmed out CVD. This improved the suspension but never helped the weighty steering or dull throttle reponse. (3.6 tdv8)

I then ultimately fixed the problem by selling this car and buying a Bentley.

I then sold that and having decided my 3.6 facelift was a lemon I bought my 2nd facelift l322 (4.4 tdv8) which was fine for 2 weeks then went hard. I replaced all the cvd dampers with new cvd dampers which only brought very minor improvement for a short time but it always went back to being hard, the steering was always weighty and the throttle reponse dull.

That only lasted a month so I'm starting to think out of the box here, is something I'm doing or connecting to the car or whatever causing this?

As mentioned there are other people with this or a similar issue across different models. (Landymansam, other contributors to his thread, the chap on the discovery 3 forum etc)

I'm really reluctant to spend any more money with specialists when they aren't able to come up with anything as there's no visible mechanical issue nor any fault codes that to point to issues

All in all, a bit stuck really.

Sorry Fisha didn't reply to your second point.

Yes I have it set to auto on the terrain response dial.

Taking it out into manual mode/general mode makes no difference to having it in auto.

The other programs do seem to work as I can feel substantial lag in throttle reponse driving in grass gravel snow as you'd expect

Okay so I might need to meet up with someone with a similar l405 to compare .

I believe Haylands offered? Is your l405 similar to mine?

Thanks Arch that would be great but I see you have a facelift so not sure if it would be a true comparison? Confused

So long as the suspension is the same on a facelift then I think it would be fair. Perhaps Craig might know the answer to this?

How would you describe the ride and steering on yours Arch and do you run stock tyre pressures 34 front and 37 rear?

Thank you!

21" rims, and stock pressures. It was magic carpet like when I first got it (came from a BMW M series), now I think am used to it a bit more and can feel more what is going on at the tyres/road. My Mrs and daughter havent commented that it has got any firmer as they still think it is full on waft waft stuff soI'm assuming it is blob on. First time FFRR owner

Okay so yours is very similar to mine then Haylands so perhaps the fairest comparison.

What's your availability like for a little meet up?

Good luck with the comparison drive! Hopefully that reassures that you are not going mad and imagining your harsh ride! Laughing

I was re-reading those disco forum posts you sent as something is niggling at me…
The (albeit translated) description suggests there are issues with the engine performance, and possible stability issues too. As I read them it feels like their harsh ride is possibly a reaction to external events which have nothing to do with the suspension components directly.
I.e. the engine has a blip and other systems go into a fail safe mode?
Between all of us we have changed just about everything to do with the suspension with no luck… so why not?

I’m reading about gearbox issues, and there have been many suggestions that engine issues (such as misfires) cause the gearbox to adjust to accommodate. Is there another issue somewhere causing our issues? I have no ideas, just looking to think way, way, WAY outside of the box!?!?

Who knows, all these issues could be caused by some silly like using crap supermarket diesel Rolling with laughter Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Thanks FFRR.

All organised with Haylands for a meet up tomorrow.

I agree it could be something external but as I keel saying I've now had 3 Range Rovers that have behaved like this.

Fine when I bought them and shortly thereafter they go... funny.

So it's either me or something I'm plugging into them.

I've a Samsung Galaxy S22 connected by Bluetooth but I had other Samsung phones with the previous 2 x L322. I've got a phone charger that's seldom used and also SDD running in a VM with a cloned Mongoose as well as an autel AP200.

The chap on the disco forum intrigues me as the D3 doesn't have CVD suspension yet he says himself and others in Russia have this problem.

My first RR an L322 Westminster with the 3.6 was never like this and excelled at being exactly what a Range Rover should be until it became plagued with a weird engine fault.

Picked an important customer up from the airport on Tuesday and he was suprised by the firmness without me even saying anything about the car.. he brought it up out the Blue Embarassed
