They did their best to bring down the road force on that tyre by moving it on the rim and then balancing.

110nm was the best that could be achieved without replacing the tyre which they didn't feel was necessary as its only 10 nm over the acceptable limit.

I suppose this is the limit as specified by the machine but I don't fancy spending £240 to find out if it makes a difference

Starting to really wonder if this is all in my head...

Can somebody definitively clear this up for me by concentrating on the way their Range Rover drivers and telling me if the following is normal?


The suspension doesn't feel 'damped' but more like the wheels skip over bumps almost as if there's a computer that runs slow and can't adapt quick enough as the wheels travel over a bump.

The throttle feels very soft and unresponsive at say a continuous 30mph. Makes the engine feel laggy.

Steering weight feels about 30% too heavy for a car of this size. I can't one hand the wheel when pulling out of a junction for example (not that this is the correct way to drive a car but just as an example)

I think I might be hyper sensitive to how a Range Rover drives.

I've felt these same feelings about my 2010 3.6, 2011 4.4 and this 2016 4.4.

My first, a 2009 3.6 Westminster was perfect, smooth comfortable ride on 20 inch alloys, nice light steering and a responsive throttle.

Is it in my head guys? Do I just need to move to a different brand?

Probably only way to be sure is to try another similar car back to back and compare how they feel. Maybe try a test drive at a local garage if possible. 2013 SDV8 4.4 Vogue SE Aintree

I am new to the RR as well. only had it 2 weeks.

My thoughts.

Yes steering is heavy compared to other cars I have owned. Last few, A7, 540i, M5, GTR all are way lighter in the steering.

Jittery? I would suggest one or more of your shock are knackered. Pretty sure one of my rears is U/S will check once I get back home.

Turbo spooling in a high gear? prob makes it feel a wee bit laggy. I am used to turbo cars and the RR feels fine to me but does need a good prod of the throttle when tootling around if you want to make some progress

The RR is not as comfy around town as I had expected. Wee bit too hard (21" wheels on mine) and I am coming from some hard cars. Like you I expected 100% luxury. its pretty close though. SDV8

I did call my by local LR dealer but they didn't have anything suitable to compare with.

I'm suprised but also thankful to hear your comments re steering weight.

The steering in my old Westminster was great though, the 2 other l322s after were heavier.

I had that thought about shocks on my previous L322 2011 so I replaced all 4 CVD shocks at great expense but it was still the same.

My dad has a disco 3 and the steering is deffo lighter. It does not annoy me, I just remember on the test drive it was the very first thing I noticed.

I have a 2 post car ramp at home, so will whip off the lower Shock bolt and test before I buy new ones.

So many interconnected parts in these cars, difficult to diagnose initially. SDV8

See that doesn't seem right to me, the Range Rover should be the most comfortable, easiest to drive model in the lineup.

Have a look at that video I posted of the POV drive.

That's how light I feel the steering should be and I'm sure mine was like that when I picked it up but who knows anymore

If you are still running with tyres at below the recommended pressure that will make your steering heavier. Only Range Rovers since 1988

No back at the factory pressures of 34 front 37 rear now.

Unfortunately MarianaWestminster, it’s something you are focussing on and looking for. Because of this you are more sensitive to the ride quality and will be more critical because of it.
That being said, I do think there is a harshness issue as otherwise you wouldn’t be on here posting about the issues.
These are luxury cars and the ride should be smooth. The “magic carpet” experience.

I had an L320 which I loved but it had a couple of issues, an ended up falling out of love with it and got rid of it (resulting in a few poor car choices). You don’t want to do the same especially after parting with your hard earned cash!

The suggestions of driving a similar car to validate your concerns is definitely worth doing, especially with a car reported as “good”. Craigs suggestion is also good if you know someone knowledgeable enough… or go for a trip to go see him

As for your steering… that should be relatively light, but not “city car” light. I find I can steer the car with one arm easily, and perform fast turns with the palm of my hand (such as when reversing). If you are needing to exert any effort then there is something up. (Caveat… I haven’t driven an L405, just the L322) Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Oh, just a thought…
Have you tried disabling traction control to see if the ride stiffens or stays the same? It has been suggested this disables the CVD system…

Or pop a connector off the front strut to cause a fault which also disabled the system? Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8
