Hi everyone,

When I got my 16 SDV8 AB running on 275 45 21 Pirellis the ride was very good considering the wheel size.

I've since had an air suspension fault which I had a thread for on here and it resulted in a new compressor.

Since then the ride has been quite firm. There are no DTCs stored which would point to an issue?

I'm running the tyres at 33 psi all round (I can't cope with them any higher)

Any suggestions?

Interest to hear thoughts on how your l405 rides?

Ride quality is very subjective, my 2014 Ab running on the same tyres is good but not perfect, ridges across the road upset it's composure and it tramlines on poor surfaces....

I have noticed that all fatties are worse in the cold weather so maybe that has something to do with yours...

If you're not too far away maybe we could compare rides...! Pete

I feel similar Haylands...

It's not so much the big bumps but it seems to find all the little lumps in the road which results in an unsettled jittery ride.


What tyre pressures are you running Haylands?

P.s. I also notice its worse in cold weather I.e harsher!

It's the wide tyres that make it tramline, I was thinking of dropping to the 20" wheels and narrower tyres when these 21's wear out...

I wouldn't call mine jittery but that's subjective...

I would agree with all your sentiments expressed above. I am running a 2016 5.0SC on 21's and after the initial honeymoon period I thought the same, tramlining, skittery and so forth.
Whilst the car was with Craig at Cam Tech he arranged/did a full geometry set up and it is now a lot better.
Would I switch to 20's?.........probably not because when I travel in another car I remember just how good a FFRR really is.

Enjoyed the honeymoon period but it is taking the shine off it now.

I've had this problem with my last 2 facelift L322 models. The 405 is better but nothing compares with my first l322 which was a 2009 3.6 tdv8 non facelift on 20s.


Will have to get the geometry checked but to be honest it isn't wearing the tyres funny and I has this done on the both facelift l322s without much difference.

What tyre pressures do you both run on your 21s?

I am running 34 p.s.i. all round.
Pirelli scorpion Verde 275/45.
I also think that the road quality has a major influence, our potholes and broken surfaces round here are dreadful.
As to the geometry I have had the L405 since August last year and got the occasional sort of "floaty" moment and quite a bit of suspension noise so my original question to Craig was "Can you check the suspension bushes please as given the age and weight of the car they may need replacing?"
They got a clean bill of health but a test drive revealed a car that needed a geometry check.

I am very tempted by the 20's with a higher profile but I am not sure they will cope any better with the broken surfaces.
Would be good to know other folks thoughts on 20's

My 2017 5.0SC on Pirelli Sc Verde 275/45R21 is the same, tramlining and reacting to the very poor road surfaces found in parts of Scotland. I run Goodyear Duratrac 255/55R20 in the winter and they don't do that. I think the lateral grooves on the Pirellis respond to ridges etc in the road surface and the car moves about in a manner I consider inappropriate for a RR. This at 37 psi rear and 34 front (when not towing), which I think is what LR recommend.

I did have worn ARC bushes replaced at c 40,000 miles and that improved steering accuracy. At present I have perished suspension arm bushes which won't be helping, but I noticed the tramlining etc with the Pirellis as soon as I got the car, none of my other RRs have done it. It's probably worse now, but of course the roads are worse now too, it's fine on good surfaces.

Red Merle on here changed from 21" to 20" with Pirellis and said the tramlining went away, I've only tried with the Duratracs. Only Range Rovers since 1988

A well set up fatty is something sublime! A poorly setup fatty is NOT a nice place to be... Im lucky I drive many on a daily basis. You usually can tell within a mile or 3 if they're not right...

Seriously, find a decent garage with a Hawke machine and hopefully you'll be amazed at the difference... It only takes two or three bad pot hole stakes and the geometry can be all over the place...

Ours was awful after the Main Dealer did some work on it, they insisted it was spot on but reluctantly re set it back up geo wise and it was still awful!

Send it to a chap in Nottingham who does allot of performance car set ups and it came back a different car instantly felt much much better. Expensive for tracking, but worth every penny.

Okay so quite a few are talking about geo/alignment but my question is will having this setup properly cure the 'jittery' unsettled feeling I get?

I dont personally notice the tramlining effect but I do note how it picks up every little bit of the road surface.

That sounds more like wheel balance?. These are super sensitive to it as the adaptive dynamics will try to cancel out a vibration on a particular corner by stiffening a damper, which in turn can cause a jittery ride.

Yes I've heard of that Qwerty.

Had 2 new tyres on the front and the 2 rears rebalanced at the same time so should be okay.

Unless you feel I should consider having them road force balanced?
