Why are you doing it out of curiosity? Never heard of that procedure before. Curious.

It's not needed unless you do a hard reset via the ECU. It may not even be a gearbox reset and may just be the accelerator / throttle response reset but the gearbox uses this as an input. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

It's designed to hold onto gears 1 and 2 for longer when cold.
