Starting problems

Morning all!
I have a 2011 L322 which has keyless starting and over the last few weeks it’s been taking me a few attempts to start the car.
If the key fob is in my pocket, more often than not It doesn’t start. I have to hold the fob by the dash.

The car powers up, but doesn’t start until after a couple of attempts.

Any idea what the issue could be?

Thanks
Stuart

Also, make sure the battery is a good one, e.g. Duracell, Varta 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Sounds to me like it may also be a starter motor issue? The 4.4TDV8 does suffer failures regularly I'm afraid... Neutral

My cash is on a starter motor. Had it myself and seen it a fair few times on here. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

before splurging on the starter motor do the following

1) replace keyfob battery with a Duracell one
2) charge the car battery
3) get the car battery checked professionally

reason i say this i had same issues and the clicking when trying to start, i changed the keyfob battery that resolved the issues regarding the car noticing it was in the car when in my pocket.
my battery even when fully charged was actually knackered and only producing just over half the cranking power. (It was original and 11 years old) replaced the battery with a RR branded AGM and i have not had an issue yet in over a year!

obviously if the car battery if fine then look into the starter but remember batteries only last at peek for around 5 years anything over that is a bonus. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Battery in the remote first.

Use a smart charger to test the car battery cranking, alternator and starter motor.

Then if all ruled out, look at the starter motor. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

A very well known issue is the trigger wire from the starter relay to the starter solenoid not being able to carry enough current to cause the solenoid to be operated with sufficient force to hold less than perfect contacts closed.

This wire is over 6m long, half of which is 4mm2 and the other half 2.5mm2. People have found that installing a replacement wire between the relay and solenoid overcomes the Start Button not starting the car first time

Also look at the starter relay (before replacing your Starter Motor) , the relay gets badly pitted and burnt over time

If none of the above helps, then maybe a new starter motor would be an option to consider Smile
