So, need to order a new screen for the 2011 AB

Had "experience" of problems with Autoglass previously on the Disco (3 cancelled visits as it was a 2 man job and they could never find a second technician )

So just want to make sure I ask for the right parts.

Screen is an LR/Pilkington original with Heated and Acoustic.

What should I be asking for when I ring, presumably OE spec but do you also need side trims replacing or anything else?

You don't need new side trims but they tend to rip off the insurance company and fit them, they should know the spec yours has, just make sure the one that turns up is the same before you pay the excess, (don't pay it up front when asked) ask the fitter, they will know...

They will want to fit a pattern part, if you ask for an original they will charge you a fortune...

You can complain to the insurance Ombudsman as they should repair your car, accident to bodywork or windscreen with genuine parts... Apparently you will usually win...

Or just take what they offer for an easy life... Pete

Leave it to them, if they break anything then they should replace it. Last time they came to a 322 for
Me they bought New clips, and that was about it. They have plenty of pop up pods now in supermarket car parks, so see if you can get them to do it there rather than at home. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Well, for the first time in 20 years I find myself in need of a new windscreen

The FFRR having suffered a stone chip on the way back from Birmingham a few days ago which has now grown to a large crack I need to contact insurers/autoglass to arrange a replacement.

I've read through this and other topics and, as with most things these days, people have good and bad experiences. I know I need to specify I only want the exact same spec as mine but are there any other pitfalls I need to be aware of so that I end up in the "good experience" category?

e.g. new trims/seals etc

Well as the lucky owner of Haylands 5.0 s/c I am awaiting a visit by Autowindscreens on friday to replace the windscreen. my insurance excess is £150 which is steep, i assume that is to cover the cost.

The windscreen you have fitted now is LR039063

It's specification is

Green top tint
Electrically heated
Acoustic glass
Heat/UV coated
Vin hole
Moisture control for automatic wipers.

It is vital that the new one is the same, especially the UV coating, this is to stop the leather inside fading in sunlight, the leather is not coated with a UV protection, the glass is, so if you have a standard screen then the black leather will fade...

The problem I had turned out to be Autoglass not reading the original specification correctly and believing that mine didn't have the coating... If you catch the light right across the outside of the screen you can see a sort of purple reflection which is the UV coating..

Ask the fitter to confirm it is the correct glass...

My experience with Autoglass / my insurer on a previous L405 I owned was despite insisting a genuine LR screen was fitted and that Autoglass agreed to, my insurer refused based on it being older than 3 years / out of warranty. I argued the case strongly based on a like for like replacement, but they simply wouldn’t budge.

To be fair, the replacement screen did have all the attributes of the original screen, acoustic / UV coating etc, but nonetheless, I wasn’t impressed.

For reference the insurer was Sheila’s Wheels (part of ESure) but I’d be surprised if others don’t try the same thing. Jonathan

strange thing is- it is not even a stone chip . the cold spell we had was quite severe here on Dartmoor. i heard it crack whilst driving . looks like I've got a similar issue with my 2012 v8 Westminster windscreen replacement where now with the new one the auto-rain sensors and dipped lights are not working correctly.

Anyone know how you find out the official LR part number for the windscreen fitted to a specific vehicle? (TOPIx doesn't appear to list it)

My insurance company used Autowindsceens. The first visit they arrived with the wrong screen . After the tech guy phoned in & I got involved we cross referenced it with the original part number from LR . Then they got it right 2nd time 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Stornoway Grey with Jet interior NOW SOLD
