I become very cross when I hear about these sorts of things and the approach the insurance industry takes.

On another occasion another example. I needed a repair after someone reversed into my offside wing. I was stationary in the car part and made my claim. Other driver luckily insured so no problem there. However when I insisted the repair carried out by my local main dealer they withdrew the curtesy car! Still the right decision but why not put it into the policy? |

A friend of mine owns a large bodyshop in London, it used to be as you say but these days there is an insurance company schedule that states the prices all insurance companies will pay for repairs, they are very detailed, parts are at MLP and each panel of each car has a price for replacement and the cost of sundries down to the penny, it's much tighter than it was... A neighbour ran into my daughters car a few years ago, it was parked on the road, his insurance company paid, they fitted a pattern bumper, I complained and they said that the insurance company insisted they use one, I phoned the ins company and complained and they fitted a genuine one... they do seem to be trying to reduce costs but at our loss and their increased profits... There is a one man band in Hull, he has the correct glass sat on his shelf, I have seen it with my own eyes, identical to mine, Pilkington made, just no Land Rover logo... Pete

A few years ago I had a 78 Corvette which needed a new screen , Autoglass turns up and the first thing he says is I normally work on Fords and Vauxhall , so after much hesitation he took the screen out but I stopped him trying to fit the replacement as he didn’t appear to have a clue. So much like yourself after lots of phone calls they sent me a cheque to pay for specialist to come and fit the screen. Obviously the car had classic car insurance so you would assume they would use specialists in the first place. Glad you boy yours sorted. 2004 vogue

I had to have a replacement fitted to an old 3 series a few years ago. They came out and fitted it on a saturday afternoon and advised not to drive until the sunday morning to allow everything to set. Fine by me, had no plans anyway. Roll on Monday lunchtime and i was going to work, pulled off my drive and bang, the windscreen cracked from the NS bottom corner right up to behind the rearview mirror.

Would you believe it... I went to the TDV8 Rangie yesterday and the screen has cracked in the cold weather.

I would email that pic to the insurer / glass company so they can see what you have. Looks like a heated acoustic pilkington screen, and is an original screen or has been replaced by a dealer, as it’s virtually unheard of to have the LR logo on a replacement fitted by a car glass fitter through an insurance payout and who doesn’t have glass cover!

D3Jon, well your windscreen is the same spec as the one Autoglass wanted to fit to mine so if you use them, they do have screens...
