So, having had my 322 in for £5500 worth of work, within 200 miles the brake pipes went, nothing to do with the work done, called them up to ascertain cost (indy) ' ah yes we know that problem sir, about £2000 ' just had new pipes fitted by local mobile chap for £180, beggars belief

My rear ones were £200 odd I think, especially if you need both flexi hoses doing too.

They made them up as they went, but I know you can get pre made genuine ones but if I remember right, there is more labour to feed those through etc.

the reason is because the main dealers have a habit of breaking the nipples off the Brembo calibers, so they cost in the replacement for brand new calipers - thieving scum

this is all because they cannot be bothered to instruct a junior mechanic on £12 an hour to spray the nipples 5 or 6 times during the day before they attempt to remove the old brake lines ( or leave it overnight to for a good soaking )

the mobile guys know what they are doing most of the time

except when the time comes that they also break the nipples off the calipers

To be fair once galvanic corrosion has set in no amount of soaking with plusgas is going to free up the threads. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Was just about to post exactly the same point as Rosco, and there this topic is, right at the top of the page!!

Fed up with my local indy (who are so busy, they never seem to have time to look at my car properly), following a brake fluid leak, I sent my L322 with the AA recovery in for a proper health check and repair with my local main dealer.

They have quoted me as follows:

FRONT TO REAR BRAKE LINE HAS RUSTED THROUGH AT FIXING - INSPECTION SHOWS BOTH PIPES RUSTED - REQUIRES BOTH FRONT TO REAR BRAKE LINES AND FULL SYSTEM BLEED CARRIED OUT VIA SDD PROCEDURE

Wait for it....... £2,033.88!

Seems a lot - How much are these pipes, and typically, how much labour is involved in changing them out?

Making up brake pipes is fairly simple, and costs about a pound a foot. Plus a pound for each union. A flaring tool is all that’s needed to make the flares which complete the new pipe. I’ve made loads up in my time. Often using the old unions if new ones of that size not to hand. So really, you are only paying some for their time to run a bit of string along the old pipe, 5to get the length. then cut a new peice to length from a roll of kunifer pipe… then thread that pipe through the car, next to the old one, bend it around a hard curve, like a large socket… unclip the old, and reclip the new… when it is ready to fit, you can trim the length exact, with a junior hacksaw, drop on the union, flare the end, and fit to the car. It’s advisable to make a blnack ‘dead end’ pipe to hold back the draining fluid, whilst the new is going in, so that the reservoir doesn’t empty and cause airlocks. Especially through the ABS. Bleed brakes, and done.

When you find a decent Indy for any work on any car you normally have to wait in line!! even then i struggle with some of the labor costs! but i think that is because i can do most jobs just dont have the time!! so have to accept it. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

I had my MD do my front to rear pipes with Genuine parts. Yes they will probably rust away again but an health issue stopped me doing them myself.
They quoted for 2.5 hours work, I think, and the total bill was £390 pounds. Parts were £60 anyway.
It in fact took them 8.5 hours so they definitely lost out on this job.
Indies were quoting between £400 and £600.
Part numbers are LR019463 and LR019464.

Booked solid until early March...... I'm not sure that's going to work for any customer who needs his car and has no brakes!!

Then it unfortunately has to go elsewhere
