Best double sided tape - fascia trim

Hi all,

What’s the thoughts on the best make and where to buy it, thinnest, double sided tape for long term sticking down of interior fascia trim?

3M contact sensitive tape - I'll get you a part number tomorrow, it's less than 0.5mm thick so won't cause any bulges.

Hi,

I used 3M VHB to repair delaminated caravan windows as a temp repair to get us home, 2 years later it’s still stuck fast so whenever we go caravanning I take a reel or two just in case.

The one I use is 15mm x 1mm and found it on both eBay and Amazon.. ______________________________

3M VHB tape is likely the best option, but there are many different types depending on what you need it for, what type of materials you're fastening to each other, including the different types of body paint, so don't hesitate to contact your local 3M office and ask for guidance - they're very good at providing advice.

FYI 3M also makes automotive-specific tapes that could do the job too.

I guess my point is this: you can't go wrong with 3M. They're the world leader in adhesives, and by far, for a reason. Just be sure to get the right type of tape for your usage scenario, as professional use tapes can be incredibly specific.

Where to get the 0.5 mm thick tape, most adverts online seem to be for 1.1mm thick tape…. Does it matter?

It can matter. Tape thickness depends on what you're bonding together and how much space you need in-between. The best thing to do would likely to figure out or ask outright (to a dealer/mechanic) what the correct thickness is so that, in turn, you can buy and use the proper tape/thickness combo.

Thickness can be crucial in some applications but irrelevant for others - it all depends on the desired end-result and the nature and material of said parts.

For instance, some parts need to be as close together as possible for purely aesthetic purposes or to limit ingress of dust, while others may require a small height difference to avoid one part marking the other over time.

Choose wisely and get advice from someone who does this for a living.

Thanks for the replies.

Thinnest thickness tape I could find readily available to buy online was 0.6mm thick:
3M VHB Tape GPH-060GF 19mm width tape x 3 metre length roll

That will be plenty thin enough for the fascia trim it’s needed for here.
