First big ticket item to fail is here!

So air suspension is inactive, ride height sensor checked over repeatedly and system recalibrated……however my mechanic did a pressure test on the system and it’s only running at 130psi Vs the nominal 180psi so that is likely route cause.

Question do you typically replace like for like or are the aftermarket ones the only/better option? Also is it a big job on replacement? L322 TD6 2003

You need to know the codes that are being stored to know why the suspension is inactive.

If the pressure is low you'll get a fault code telling you it's not building pressure quickly enough.

If there's a fault code logged for one sensor then chances are it'll be the sensor that's out of scope with the others.

dhallworth's post seems to be spot on, ( As usual )all I can add is that 'IF' the compressor efficiency has reduced, possibly due to wear, some of these compressors can be overhauled with a new piston ring kit etc, if required, this could save you a lot of money, especially if you do the job yourself.

Spoke with my mechanic, it’s intermittently producing the code for failure to build pressure, so you were spot on.

He wasn’t aware of the rebuild kit, so was looking at a replacement compressor, he’ll have a dig into it next Friday as I need the car to get to South Wales and back this Tuesday and Wednesday.

To be fair to it apart from 2 rear brake callipers and 2 ride height sensors and 1 parking sensor it’s been as good as gold other than the drivers door freezing up in these cold conditions L322 TD6 2003

Not sure which compressor is fitted to your car, as mine is a 2006, but here are some links to possible overhaul kits, by chance I had just been looking at buying a kit to store in the garage for when the weather is better, as mine is original and it is now 17 years old.
